Rear-Ended on the 405
Well, today at about 10:30 near the N.B. Seal Beach Blvd. exit on the 405 I was inching along in stop and go traffic when, wham! I was hit by a Chevy Silverado going about 5 MPH. I was like, damn!
We both pulled over and traded info and the guy said he was sorry, he'd looked down for a split second and when he looked up he had no time to stop in time. I figure he was probably keying a phone number into his cell phone. The damage is minimal but still about $850 to fix, all of which my insurance is picking up. (I've already got the estimate and have the parts, primarily the rear bumper, on order). At the same time I'm going to have my front bumper repaired, (reconditioned), and a big scratch on my right front wheel fixed, at my own expense. The front bumper has several minor dings and a small gash. This is going to cost around $600 out of my own pocket. I'm taking it well, I mean, no one was hurt and the damage could have been far worse. And besides, this gives me an excuse to get the front bumper and wheel fixed which will get my car back in near perfect condition. The damage to the rear bumper is so minimal that it's not worth posting pictures, unless, of course, someone insists. |

My neck! My neck!!!
One of MANY things I don't miss about not living in OC any more is the damn 405 freeway. Besides being a traffic nightmare, it's fallen into such disrepair, it's like trying to drive through downtown Beirut right about now. You do know why they call it the 405?? Because it takes "4 o' 5 hours" to get wherever you're trying to go!

Question, if YOU are the one that got rear-ended, why is your insurance covering the damages??? Shouldn't he be paying for it, and isn't that why you traded info? Anyway, glad to hear it wasn't anything to serious. GL

I hope you had a police dispatched to the scene. If not, dont be suprised if that person complains that they have injuries and wants your insurance to pay up. That happens all the time in FL.
You may have to pay your deductable but the rest should be the other persons insurance who hit you. |

the person who rear-ended you is definitely at fault so his insurance should pay for all the damages. u shouldn't have to pay a dime out of your own pocket. he should be the one having to pay his deductible. if anything, you should be the one getting some extra money for going thru the inconvenience.

Sorry about your mishap.
I was rear ended in a company vehicle. I didn't know this at the time, but any time you get rear ended the other company gives you a settlement. How much depends on how much damage was done. It's to pay for potential lost wages, pain and suffering, physical therapy etc. You should be notified shortly. Keep an eye out for it.

CMD - sorry to hear about the damage. You're right though, it certainly could have been worse. I'm glad no one was injured and no sheet metal was bent!

I rear-ended someone, they got a ticket and I collected from their insurance company. Why was this? Well, the idiot decided to move from one lane that was stopped into my lane, which was moving along nicely. Bam, I rear-ended him. When the cop pulled up, he saw me madder than heck - but silent - and the other driver talking his head off trying to explain. I didn't have to say a thing, the cop figured it out in about 10 seconds. Ticket was improper lane change. The wail "he rear-ended ME!" was thrown around a few dozen times to no avail by the other driver. Now, had we both been in the same lane it would have been a different story. |

Dont feel bad. The 3 lane closure caused a lot more accidents last night. I saw a new TL got demolished from the rear by a truck near huntington beach exit.

Sorry to hear.
Yup, the 405 sucks. Just turned my vehicle in to the body shop today cause I backed into a pole in a parking garage. I feel your pain. Insurance is taking care of the work, I'm paying for some other stuff I might as well get taken cared of. But as someone told me in an earlier post, the car wil get fixed, the issues will get worked out and the car will look just as cool. The real pain stings in the wallet...and that's what hurts the most. |
