Will the standard radio in the 7 play DVD's?

or do I need premium sound. The six disk cd changer is something I would never use was wondering if the 2K could be better spent on other options like the Lux seating package, heads up display or adaptive cruise.
If BMW wanted to make a even bigger technical splash in the US market why oh why did they not implement internet access here in the states - makes not sense.

My euro spec standard player allows DVD video whilst the vehicle is stopped (hand brake on).

As far as I know, you should be able to play a DVD from the standard DVD player. Playback on the iDrive screen will only be allowed as long as the car is not in motion. Once you start driving, the video will turn off but sound will continue.

There is no CD changer or player in the car or offered by BMW in the 7 series. All players like the one build into the center dashboard, the Changer in the passenger side dashboard above the glove compartment and the rear player are all DVD players!

I was told that the software in the car for the internet access is apparently not ready for the North American market and hence they are not yet offering this service here. The internet access uses a GSM EDGE network type modem, so speed isn't the greatest either. I think it also has something to do with service agreements between BMW and the various cell service providers. Not to mention that you would have to pay for the data usage. Apparently, this is not cheap in Europe from what I have heard. I think BMW includes this service free of charge for a year or so to get you hooked and then asks a fairly steep service fee per month thereafter!
