Roof Rack doesn't sit flush
Hey.
I just got a roof rack (BMW) and it doesn't sit flush at all. You can see the gap and the BMW black plastic piece does not go with the lines of the car. Is that the way it should look? I personally think it looks horrible and am not sure if I installed it wrong. Let me know. Thanks

Hmm..I figured it out now...Maybe I should look at the cover of the book first!! "Roof Rack for 1 Series" How they have a roof rack for a 1 series in the US is beyond me! I spent an hour working on this thing. And its now 9:30pm. If they didn't match all the prices of Circle BMW for me...I'd be even madder....

hmm..in that case so much for having an answer to my problem..haha
i'm def not happy with the way it sits...I saw one of the pics on another topic and it looked pretty flush does anyone know if you have to have it facing a certain direction or if one is supposed to be up front and other in back? The directions are very vague. Thanks for your help in advance

Maybe someone else can chime in - I agree it looks flush in the catalogue but I haven't installed it yet.

I bought the base system roof rack. It part also is good for the 1 series, too. The part is probably interchangable. I have not installed the base system yet so I cannot tell how well they fit. Re-evaluate your installation procedure and don't give up.

I have a Thule roof rack for the E90 I am getting a hire car at the weekend which is an E90 i'll try the Thule rack and report on how it looks. The Thule one also fits the 1 Series as well as the three. It maybe an option if it looks ok. I'll post pics. But it will be Sunday before I can do that

I does stick up a bit. When I bought mine the dealer installed it for me the first time so I could get it home. They told me it sticks up a bit so it will not crush the flaps that normaly cover the anchors. Look at the bottom of each rail. There is a picture of the car that shows you where it is supposed to go. There one for the front and back are different. I just put mine back on last night for a trip this weekend. Take a look at the attached pic. This was after the dealer installed it. You can see the gap.

I actually noticed today when I was driving and looked out the sunroof at the rack that there was a picture on the bottom. Thanks alot for your help guys! I have to reinstall it now =)
Croaker - yours looks alot more flush than mine...obviously b/c its installed properly =) thanks again

The BMW rack does sit quite a bit more flush to the roof than the THULE rack pictured above. When it is on the car I cannot see the little flaps (which you open to install the rack) at all (while they are visible with the THULE rack).

The rack is not flush with the paint, but I consider that a good thing. I dont want that rack scratching my paint...
I put mine on in the winter (for my snowboard), and it worked great!!! |

If anyone wants to sell their roof rack built for an E90, Thule or BMW, let me know, I may be interested.
