Oil Leak

This morning after I drove to the terminal, I got a call informing me that there was oil on the ground in the garage!

What do you guys think??? I didn't know and I'm at work right now so I don't know how bad it is or what it is.

have a look see how bad it is...then take it to the dealer...could be anything from the seal at the bottom not tight, to seapage through the block...saw a thread on that too

I was just reading one on here that it was the transmission pan and sealing sleeve that was leaking. I'm going to see if it's similar to my issue tonight when I get home.

I can't believe it... I'm so upset!

As for my oil change thread, I added a liter of oil and it read 22000 km till the next oil change (which means 40k before I get my FIRST oil change), Autohaus said that's probably incorrect and I should bring it by now for an oil change.

See what colour is the fluid, I think that can also give you an idea what fluid is leaking.

I am suprised someone would call you and tell you your car is leaking fluid! Is it in a condo?

Nope. It was parked in the fiance's garage. I'll let you know what color I think the fluid is. BTW, I hear our tranny fluid isn't red.

You would have to find out and post which fluid is leaking and how much in order to get a sensible advise, but whatever it is, it has to be fixed by a dealer.

The color of the fluid is a light yellow color, almost golden in color. It comes from the center of the car. If you asked me for a position relative to inside the car.. I would say directly under the stereo/ashtray area.

It was a puddle approximately (albeit it probably spread out over the course of the day while I was not there) 1 feet by 1.5 feet.

I laid out some newspaper on the ground below the car for the last 2 days and there has been no additional drips. Not a single drip has fallen since that day. So in summary, the puddle started one evening and ended the same evening.

I checked under the car by lying on the ground and there is no residue of oil under the car streaming or "droplets" hanging or other evidence I can see without actually lifting the vehicle up.

Any ideas?

Update: So I have an appointment booked to have an oil change (first one) at Autohaus. They said it's been over a year and it doesn't matter that the car doesn't say it's ready for it. Very nice!

However, they said that if the mechanic can't find the oil leak, they'll charge me $130 + taxes to look at it! OMG!

Do you see more oil on the ground after you parked it overnight?

Put some paper or cardboard on the ground and see if the car leaks more oil on the paper over a few hours. If it is still leaking, then you have proof on the paper. And if the mechanic cannot find the leak, then they are incompetent and it's not your fault. You have proof.

Don't know if it was intentional, but that is a beautiful play on words...

I laid newspaper out the following day for 2 nights and nothing. Nadda. Not a single drip. I swear I'm not dreaming this up but it is odd. I'm bringing the car into Autohaus on Wednesday. I'm going to see if the SA is going to be nice enough to check it out free of charge.

If it's already up in the air for the oil change, then they should not be charging you to see whether or not you have a leak.

I said the same thing to them. They said apparently it takes time for a mechanic to look around an "unrelated" area. And the "minimum" charge is $130 (an hour's work).

That is BS...

If you have never had your oil changed, I assure you that your oil wouldn't be "golden brown". It'd be black! I don't think it is engine oil.

So it's likely not engine oil. I didn't think so anyways since it's under the (sorta) middle of the car. The vehicle only has 18000 km on it. Doesn't seem right to be leaking oil at a young age.

Think Tranny fluid?

Unlikely that golden fluid would be 1 yr old engine oil.

You laid out newspaper for two days and nothing ... did you let the
engine run while the paper was underneath (you should) or has
it sat there cold since you left the city?

I let the engine run for 20 minutes then parked it there. I've even taken the car out a few times since and nothing. It's wierd.. leaks don't just start and stop the same day.

The dealership said that if there's nothing, they'll charge for diagnostics because the mechanic has to look in that unrelated area. So even if they don't find anything, they still have to get paid is what they told me.

They should be able to charge for diagnostics in the event that nothing is found -- otherwise they would get a flood of cars coming in just to get checked out under
the false pretense of a mystery ailment.

BUT... I totally understand why you would feel shitty about paying.

Any chance AT ALL that the wet spot was left by another car, not yours???? ... like you said,
nobody has actually witnessed your car leaking.
