With four snow tires it's fine.

Invest in a set of good snow tires/rims or another vehicle to drive during the winter months. Having another set of tires and rims will eliminate the need to dismount and mount tires with each season.

I had absolutely no problems last winter. I don't have the sports package though. I was getting around better than most people. Then again, New York gets more snow than we do in Kansas.

u need REALLY GOOD SNOW TIRES....I lived in CNY and tried to keep the A/S tires (I was going to move to NYC) so I didn't want to get snow tires. Basically whenever it snowed i couldn't drive the car.

How many feet of snow were you trying to drive in? I got around fine in about a foot and a half.

I got the 325xi and I'm not sure it was the right decision. I live in Westchester and some winters we get lots of snow.

Last winter, we had only 2 storms that I had to drive through. Of course, it snowed a lot more than that but the roads are usually cleared within a couple of hours. So the only time I really benefited from the AWD is when I was driving in a storm.

The car gets probably 4 or 5 miles less per gallon and is a bit less responsive than a non-x version (this is from my experience with a dealer loaner for a couple of days).

Since I work about 35 miles from home and I sometimes need to drive through a snow storm, I considered it a necessity. But once the threat of snow has passed, I wish I was carrying around less weight.

I lived in Winnipeg, Canada until last year. I drove a lowered 325i for 4 years through Manitoba winters. -60 celsius with windchill, unplowed roads and icey as well. No problems.

I just followed these simple steps:

1) Accelerate slowly and keep the car straight
2) Give yourself longer distances to stop in case you hit ice
3) Never accelerate in corners

The car handled better in the winter than my Honda Accord did, although the front bumper did act as a snow plow.

Funny thing is I never got stuck until I'd get home and get stuck backing up into my own driveway, because I was too lazy to shovel it!
