Shuddering sound when disengaging clutch

I have a 2-week old 330i 6sp, and when I disengage the clutch (push the clutch pedal in) in the first gear, I sometimes hear shuddering sound.

This doesn't happen all the time, and it seems it happens more often when the engine is cold and the car is moving slowly.

Is this normal? Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks!

bring it to the dealership. This does not sound normal at all.

I have the same problem, Its been that way since i got it last july. I was about to post if this was normal. It only happens when im moving slowly and the rpms are at idle. it is worth fixing, everything seems to be fine after 1 year of operation.

I think you are experiencing this because you are shifting below a certain RPM.

I have the same problem... but it happens when I go into second gear or when I shut the engine off. My dealer replaced the clutch and the flywheel and it still didnt fix the problem. When I brought it back they said the noise was normal which completely baffled me since they just invested a ton of money replacing the clutch and flywheel. If your dealer finds out whats causing the problem please post it here so I can get my dealer to fix my car..

It only happens to me when I engage the clutch at low rpms in while in first gear. So now I just redline it every time.
Problem fixed.

I have this same issue, was just going to post, but found this thread. It's the same sound you hear at shut down, without depresing the clutch. I hear it usually through first gear, at really low RPMs. Anyone else?

It happens when you don't fully release the gas pedal before clutching in.

the clutch is still under load so it shudders when you disengage it.

try releasing the gas a little earlier before clutching in.

this only happens at low revs by the way.

Exactly the same on mine - 330i May 2005. The Noise is noticable at shutdown without depressing the clutch (several threads on this - "search for "death rattle").
And I hear it, when depressing the clutch with negative drive-train load (push condition). I think it comes when the torsional dampening springs in the clutch plate are loaded, and when that spring-load is released, it causes the noise on vehicles with more freeplay in the transmission (tolerance).
I tested several E90s with MT at my dealer and all had this shuddering noise. I think its "normal" on most MT E90s.

Interesting recommendation -- I'll try that tonight. I am experiencing exactly the same clutch shuddering noise when disengaging the clutch in 1 and 2 gears (sometimes 3d gear too). the feeling is like something is dropping in the clutch/transmission assembly and the disengagement occurs very abruptly. If I push the clutch pedal extremely gently, the shuddering is minimized, but it's still there. The most annoying thing is that I've never experianced this problem before even in very cheap cars.

when turning off the car, hold in the clutch...and it does not happen then. I've experienced that in other car makes as well.

As far as the shuddering when putting the clutch in, that is normal when at low rpm in 1st gear. Used to happen to me in my Boxster too.

Just hit 95 miles on a joyride today and noticed this. Looking for a parking spot, piddling around at < 5 mph. Press in clutch and "CLUNK". Never had this happen in any other car! I figured it was a throttle/timing issue (although, again, any other manual I've driven never did this) and it did seem to remedy it when I waited off-throttle for a bit then depressed the clutch.
