Passenger Presence Sensor

When you have a front passenger, the car will turn on the seat belt indicator. I assume it uses a weight sensor? Anyone know what's the weight limit to trigger the sensor? Coz when I have my kid, it won't get triggered.

Probably because of certain countries outlawing (or at least frowning on) young children from sitting in the front seat.

hre in switzerland law tells you that children under 8 years old does not come and seat in front. It is quite new, because years ago it was 10 or 12 ...

i can imagine Switzerland is quite the same as Germany ...

So i don't know how much a 8 years old european does have for a weight, but i let you make with this information :-)

Agree - When i go to the shop for a few items I put the bag on the front seat and it triggers the seat belt warning.

Maybe 10lbs?

I had someone weighing 40kg and intermittently it didn't trigger. The seat belt light came on and off and the chime never went off.

My backpack with a portable laptop, an ipod, and my pda cause the sensor to be tripped and the indicator light by the sunroof to blink. I'm guessing that is not even 10 lbs.

There must be a 2nd stage tho, because the chime never goes off.

I believe it is actually light, something like 10-15 lbs. I have noticed that the item needs to be all the way back in the seat to activate the sensor.

its 40 lbs, so that if there is a baby in the front seat, you can either choose to turn off the airbag or not, manually.

But even with a 170lb adult in the seat you can turn off the airbag manually if you want.

(in UK anyway)

Portable laptop? Isn't a laptop supposed to be portable?
