How much is my car worth?

Hey guys, I was wondering if I could get some insights on this matter from you guys. I might move back to Korea this coming summer, and if I do go back I have to get rid of my car. So the question is, how much is my car?

2008 Feb build, Delivered in April. E92 Jet Black on Black leatherette. 6MT. Purchased.
The only options I have on my car are, USB integration, PDC, heated seats.
I believe I have around 14,XXX kms on my car. I bought it in BC and drove it over to ON. So that's like 5000 kms added on odo, which means I only put 9xxx kms on odo from daily driving for the past year. So my car has been sitting in its parking lot for most of the time. It has a loonie-size ding on the passenger's side quarterpanel but its nothing to lose sleep over and WILL fix it and have the car detailed professionally before putting the car up for sale.

I know that I should put some picture up, but I just wanted to know how much it would be worth with above spec. If I were to sell it, it would be anytime between now and August.
Thanks

Assuming its a 328i, black book value is $28-30K. BMW is advertising used 2008 328i e92s at $40-43K in its pre-owned database. E.g.: there's one with sport + premium + logic 7, manual, black + leatherette, 14,000Km in Toronto listing for just under $42,000. I am just guessing that's not a firm price and they could be bargained down into the high $30Ks. That's your competition, though. On the upside, there's only 7 2008 e92's listed for sale by BMW dealers in the GTA.

In my experience, if you try to sell to a dealer, they will offer a little below the low end of the black book value, so probably about $26K. Privately, I would guess you could get low to mid-30s but that would depend on where you're trying to sell and how long you were willing to wait, and whether that sport+premium e29 up there is still on the lot. This may not be the best time to try to unload a 3-series, but there are always bargain hunters in a recession.

I just bought my 335i... so I'd say you could get between $40k to $42k with the limited number of options your car has.

Thanks for the inputs guys . I haven't really decided if I want to sell it just yet.
I'll take care of my car slowly since it needs that little dent removed, and some maintenance work before I decide to sell it privately. It would be very unforunate sell it, If I do. But hey, maybe next gen M3 might be in line

Yeah, I understand the current situation. But the car costs about 10k more here in Canada than in the states. So I have my fingers crossed.

you'll take the biggest loss by buying it and selling it same year.... even if you not going to use it for a year I would just leave it parked

Looking at autotrader (which is where most people look to buy cars here) id say you could sell it easily for $45,000 cdn. The cheapest 08 2dr 335i is listed for $49,800 cdn with same mileage as yours but with sports and premium packages. At the toronto auction where dealers buy their cars off lease 08 e92s go for 41-44k depending on the options and thats as recent as last week. Good luck with yours.

Sorry, but good luck getting $40k plus in this economy - and I'm assuming you're selling it privately - on a unique high end car like that. Lately, on trades most people haven't been coming close to BB values. I doubt retail is doing much better either.

As a base, BCAA says for your car:

Average Trade-in: $34,750.00 Average Retail: $38,825.00

Based on the kilometers you have entered, your vehicle would fall above the Average Trade-In price shown.
.
.
And I'd then take a bit off those numbers for real world values these days.

Best place to look for numbers is the Manheim Auto Auction in the US right now... thats gonna give you the most realistic numbers.

Yeah, but if you do manage to get auction pricing, that's the real guide to what the dealer will give you on trade. BB can be outdated, and doesn't account for differences in regions (West usually worth more than East).

For retail, looking at autotrader or local Craigslist gives you a good idea, especially if you see car ads sitting there for a while, or the same ad being resubmitted every month (which I've seen!) then it gives you a good idea that the guy's price is probably out to lunch.
