I am Challenged to a race with an IS-F

One of my motorcycle friends purchased a IS-f and of course he thinks it is the fastest car on the road and thinks it will toast a M3.But of course I cannot let this go unchallenged so now we have decided that we will go to Cayuga for a little beating on the Camry or whatever they call that carThere will be money riding on this and the lapping day that will follow sometime later where the M3 should come into its own, again there is money riding on this.So once we figure that out , I will need you guys out for some moral support & IS-F razzing and maybe for you guys to also play.

Sounds like fun! Keep us posted - I am sure I would make the trip to Cayuga for support and even a bit of lapping!

I think he might be a little sleepy on the lights

He is used to looking at the rear of my vehicles on track

I think they had a top gear recently with M3 vs IS-F...M3 came out on top

on a track, you will no doubt win! but believe me when I say this...don't put money on a straight line race! A close friend of mine has one, and we raced from 3rd gear around 90-100km/h until about 140-150 km/h and he just pulled away with a stock IS-F.

$50 is OK on a straightline run but it is $200 on the track.I am not concerned about the strip as I dont really give a shit about that but the M should be quicker than the slushbox Jap crap

The road course is another story however!

But you are also 500lbs heavier than my car and it will be on the strip at Cayuga.

I had to get in on this one. Just by numbers alone, I think the Toyota would win in a straight line but drag racing isn't the M3's game anyways. Around the twisties that Corolla would definitely lose.

I'm down for a Cayuga trip for sure. Just as long as it's in a few weeks when I'm back from Florida. Which by the way, not that i want to throw it in anyones face, but I'm sitting on my balcony in my pijamas watching the waves hit sand and on the forum using my iPod touch. I do miss my M3 though.

Edmunds (fairly reputable) managed 13.2 seconds at 109 mph out of the IS-F (around par with an E93 M3 FWIW, although as speeds increase the IS-F would pull away)

Edmunds got 12.7 seconds at 112 mph in the E92 m3 6MT.

Half a second is enough of a spread that as long as you get a decent launch you will win. If you have DCT this is actually a no brainer (the IS-F is an autobox so he will get a decent launch just mashing the go pedal). If you have the 6pseed, as long as you don't completely bog or boil, i'm still picking you to win.

That is just the drag strip.... at the track it will be a driver's race, with a significant advantage to the M3 if both cars are being pushed to at least within 9/10s of their limit.

On the track, you will have him in the corners no doubt. IS-F doesnt handle very good, especially stock with no suspension work.
I am 500 lbs heavier, but this was prior to my car having the AA ECU Upgrade, I did have pulleys and my Eisenmann Race at the time.

You have to know that the IS-F has a bigger motor. It is 5.0 liter V8. It has 416 hp and 371 lb-ft and it weighs 3780 lbs. The M3 is a 4.0 liter V8. It has 414hp and 295 lb-ft and it weighs 3700 lbs roughly.

This is a very specific speed range for an acceleration test, at 90-100 in 3rd the IS-F could have been in a much better power band of it's engine than your m3

I'm pretty sure from a dig your E93 will match the IS-F up to about 170. At which point the IS-F will start to pull away due to the weight difference.

Also the 8 speed auto would help a lot in the mid range.

Yes but the IS-F only makes this power over a much shorter RPM range. It redlines at 6600rpms so it needs 371ft-lbs to make the same HP as the M3 does on 295ft-lbs. The M3 has a much broader torque curve from around 5000rpms right up to 8400rpms. The lexus makes 371ft-lbs at 5,200 rpm and then shuts down at 6600rpms (pretty narrow window).

I will however say, having a quickshifting 8speed autobox helps keep the lexus in the 5000-6600rpm range a lot. But nevertheless, the tests don't lie, the m3 coupe puts up better numbers at the strip and track.

Besides the sad sack tailpipes, I think the IS-F is a great ride and an excellent first attempt by Lexus.

It does not matter what the mags say. I will still beat Dunkyroo, because he is too old and can not handle the power of the M3.

So carry on Dunky, try and get all the moral support you can get, because you will need it after the race!

Of course you are looking for moral support. You want all of your M3 buddies, to stroke your ego saying "Yes Dunky, you are the best, you have the best car", "you should win". The cars are close enough that it will come down to driver....and you are scared!!

You will lose!
