my M3 DCT 10,000km progress report

Nothing much to report except I'm usually bored with a car by about this time & looking for the next thing. Not so with this one!

So far so good. No rattles or squeeks, no major issues except stalling 1-2 times with traffic heading towards me . Getting a flat 13.0L/100kms around town which I think is outstanding for what it is..

In short, this thing is a keeper & I have never been this happy with a car I've owned ever!

How's your Oz delivered M3 going?

Fantastically. It has 6200 on the clock and apart from the upgraded DCT with the slow speed lag I cannot fault the car. It is only a matter of time before there will be a software fix for that anyway. This is my first M, and I just can't get over what a good car it is. The noise, the handling, the power it is simply brilliant. My ultimate dream car had always been a 911 (and the only reason I didn't go for one this time was needing a sensible back seat for the kids), but having driven this little beauty I no longer have any desire for a 911.

Fuel

I am so impressed with the fuel economy you are acheiving with the M3. I know it may make no sense to some, but the issue of fuel consumption is a concern to me when I am weighing up the pro & cons of my next purchase. Not so much from a cost point of view but rather I don't want to feel that I need my own carbon trading scheme to run my car.

Can I ask how you would describe your driving habits to acheive such consumption. For example city/freeway driving per tank and more impotantly fun factor when you need to enjoy the amazing performance of the car.

Thanks for your information.

13lt/100km is a miracle for me in city driving, how do you do this? No way I can improve this any better than 16-17lt/100km.

In any kind of mixed city and country driving I can't get better than 16.

OK, the bulk of my driving is to & from the office. That ranges from 40km/ph to 70km/ph zones. A couple of times a week I will get onto a freeway & put the 'boot' into it on the entry ramp section & use all the revs to about 4th gear!

I don't class myself as a revhead but more than a few times a week the traction control light is flashing as me

I found when I first took delivery of the car my average was somewhere around 16L/100km for memory - it has slowly come down ever since. I never reset it..

Maybe I am revving it too much but I can't get anywhere near those numbers.

Luke - All this talk of the rev and joys of ownership is making me impatient. Got confirmation this week that my E92 reaches the port on 8th April. Will be another 2 weeks give or take Easter delays before its ready for delivery.

You think you're impatient? I've been waiting since July '08 for my car!!

Anyway, I'm on the home stretch now....got my VIN today so I plugged it into the 2wc website and I'm told it arrives into the port on May 2....so it looks like about another 6 weeks to go.......

Totally agree with you Luke,

This car is just amazing to drive and i always seem to find the longest route to where i'm going just so i can keep driving it..lol
Don't worry Junkie and SPQR we have all been there and know what you are going thru and completely understand the anticipation of your newer beemer hitting our shores.

BTW i've just hit 13,000kms no probs at all.

I think Mark's M3 has been back around 3 or 4 times now with his battery issue. They still couldn't find a fault so they chucked in a new battery and..... no probs since...LOL! Technology hey!

Don't forget to post pics Junkie when you pick it up.

When are we getting together for a drive ?

Go to:

https://att.2wglobal.com/gstattweb/o...uickSearchPage

All you do is enter your car's VIN in the "Cargo ID" field and the website will tell you where your car is and the date it's due into Melbourne.

I have almost hit 24,000km now, car has been great, due for new front tyres now and my third set of rears...Fuel consumption in the city gets up around 17, combined probably 13-14, lowest I have seen is 10.3 when we reset it on the freeway On the track, 25+...

Issues so far: Occasional right rear brake light failure message, this is a known fault and is a problem with the socket which will be sorted at next service and one key has become intermittent so will be replaced.

Very happy with the car and I am enjoying making it a bit different with subtle mods here and there...Every single M3 I have seen in Melbourne is completely stock, what is with that?

I put some pics up here recently:

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=250547

Apart from the steering wheel (Doncaster BMW) and exhaust (Remus Australia), all the bits and pieces have come from overseas and all the vendors and products are easily found here on M3Post. Just shop around for shipping prices and make sure things are not sent as pure freight as there are lots of handling charges...My diffuser cost around $500 in freight processing fees just to get from the tarmac to the DBShenker warehouse!

As for getting the bits installed, I am lucky that my partner has worked in the prestige service industry for awhile so she knows some good people. I have used Donnellans in Box Hill for tyres/wheels (Mark there has an E93 M3), B&M Refinishers in Fairfield are currently painting and fitting the boot and Steve's Wheels in Brunswick will be doing the suspension work.

3800 kms in mine so far.

Issues with driver side window rattle when driving over uneven or bumpy surfaces. Stillwell service team have attempted to fix it. Its less intrusive now but I can occassionally hear it still.
