Leather Care

Hi there ...

what are you using for your leather ?

do you have a product you put X times a year on your seats ?
or do you let it be, and let go ?

thanks ...

i really like "auto magic" leather conditioner...

non greasy...low gloss...smells great...easy to apply.

In the past I have used Lexol, but I hate the smell, the gloss and the way it makes the seats sticky. So...I pretty much hate everything about it. I usually would apply it about every six months. I am looking for a new brand of conditioner though as it is time to hit my seats.

Application easy? Smell pleasing? High or low gloss?

extremely easy, z-9 sprays on, wipes off easy, smells great, leaves a natural matte finish. z-10 is called "leather in a bottle" for a reason; the smell is intoxicating...when I apply it with my hands, I can't stop smelling them. Again, it's very easy to apply; just put a good amount to cover the seats, which soak it all up--no need to buff or remove excess, unless, of course, you go overboard. No sticky residue, just a sleek, matte finish which makes the seats feel softer to the touch. I highly recommend these products. It's much better than the Lexol stuff I used to use, which didn't clean the seats worth a damn and left a sticky feeling.

My seats are pretty clean, in fact I use a vac on them weekly. I just need to conidtioner. It sounds like I may give Zanio a shot.

Leatherique once a year, painful process but worth it. I agree with the Zaino recommendations, they are great products and very easy to use.

I've heard that same comment about lexol over and over again, regarding the tacky feel, so I would avoind that product. For serious deep cleaning of neglected sealts, leatherique is the way to go. For regular maintenance of new or like new seats, Zaino Z9 and Z10 are the way to go.

Do I really need the Z9?

SCA, I started trying the Duragloss products because they are being "hyped" recently at autopia. I bought the leather conditioner for about $7 and it leaves the leather soft, matte, and has a pleasant smell. Some peaple that have used both Zaino and Duragloss suggest it is the same product re-packaged since DG makes leather care products for other companies. Take it for what its worth, just a rumor. DG products are available locally at Car Quest. Then again, I've never had a problem with Lexol once it dries and buffed with a clean MF towel.

I would. All leather needs to be cleaned prior to conditioning. If you are really that against buying two products, then Mothers Reflections leather care is a cleaner and condtioner in one, works well, and is available locally.

I'll chime in for the Zaino stuff (Z9/Z10). Love the ease of use and the Z10 leather fragrance. I use pale yellow MF towels to see what the Z9 is removing and sometimes apply it twice before the Z10 is applied. Usually the second wipe off of Z9 shows very little to no dirt exchange on the towel so in my opinion it works great. I vacuum my leather once every 2 weeks and do the Z treatment. Every weekly wash I wipe down my leather with a slightly moist WW MF drying towel.

I think I gotta give Z9/Z10 a try. I've been using Meguiar Platinum(?, the black plastic bottle) and Zymol, which have worked great. Maybe Zaino's is even better.

I'm going to give Zaino a try, but in the meantime I picked up some Meguiars (in the maroon bottle) leather conditioner that works pretty well. It smells like a new leather sofa, doesn't leave any residue, isn't shiny, and only cost $5. For that price I had to give it a try.

I use yellow MF towels to show me what it is removing. I may do a second pass on my drivers seat before applying Z10 just to make sure I've removed as much of the dirt I can. When I first started using Z9 I used a soft brush because I was used to that technique with Lexol. MF is all I need now.
