Anyone from Tampa Area?

Hey I'm new the the forum,

I'm moving from Fort Lauderdale to Tampa first week of July, I'm starting up at Largo Medical Center ... lets just say Largo is very different from Fort Laud, no offense to anyone living there.

Any suggestions on where to live near that area? I'm open to living up to a 20 - 25 minute drive away from Largo, I'm 23 years old, and married, so I'm looking for quiet area (there are soem really nice apartments in the hyde park, South Tampa area, but from the reviews I've read online it seems like there are too many young college drunks that just party all weekend, def not what I'm looking for)

I'm looking for a new or newly redone 2 bedroom 2 bath apt if possible, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to Tampa. South Tampa is nice. I have a friend who lives right off of Westshore blvd. and his place is really quiet and nice. Harbor Island, Hyde Park are some other nice areas in South Tampa also. A member on here has a house for sale in Clearwater. Im sure he'll post more info once he see's this thread.

Are you up for photoshoots/meets? It'd be nice to be able to get another E90 member out once in a while....

I actually work in Largo and live in Brandon myself. Takes me about 25 to 30 minutes(depending on traffic sometimes more) taking the crosstown to work.

oh man, my mom & sister live in largo, about .5 miles away from the beach! i go there quite frequently, and im sure ill end up moving there soon. Its a really nice place to be. Some of it tho, IMO, is a bit run down, but it dosent bother me that much.

you should look around largo, closer to the intercoastal. thats where id want to live.

I live in the Indian Rocks Beach area and I like it quite a bit. Of course compared to Lauderdale, it is super 'quiet' i.e. boring.

As for areas to check out in Pinellas County:
West Largo
Belleaire
Sand Key
Safety Harbor
Oldsmar (have quite of few co-workers that live out there, and it is nice, but you will have to deal with traffic)

Now is definitely the time to buy in the area. Good luck with your move.

Don't forget to check out the Burg. Lots of very nice houses available in the best neighborhoods. Especially in this market.

Wow really? What about during rush hour? I've only been into Largo once, on google maps its showing Brandon is nearly 50 min drive !! I was looking into places in South Tampa as well, but I'm afraid if I'm on the other side of the bridge that I might pay big time with traffic.

I work 12 hour nights, so traffic isnt really bad at all. Its 30 miles from my place to my work.

Thanks for the advice, what I meant by different is that in Fort Laud on a single corner there are 5 starbucks, 3 Publix, and 2 Malls, lol ok I'm exaggerating but it seems like in Largo things are a bit more spread out, not as commercialized and the general demographics seem to be an older age group ... I haven't decided yet if I want to deal with traffic everyday and life in South Tampa ... or if I want to live in Pinellas County and commute to S TAmpa when I want to go out with the wifey.

Do you mean St Petersburg? How does the area compare with Largo?

If I had to do it over again, I would have bought in Channelside. Probably when the market gets better again, I will sell and buy there.

Yep, St Pete. Not to offend anyone but Largo is commonly referred to as Larghetto with us locals. Check out Old Northeast, Crescent Heights, and Venetian Isles as far as some really nice quiet 'hoods go or check out downtown for a more urban feel.

I just bought a townhome in St.pete at Townhomes of Bay Isle. They are new construction rottlund homes. It is located off 9th, north of gandy, easy access to the highway....can get about anywhere pretty quickly... Def. worth checking out!
