entirely plausible as the have different wiring depending on the spec ordered no what 'somebody might fit in the future. If you think about it they are not going to spend money fitting wires if they are not used.

I put up with pushing the button because having them close every time you switch off can sometimes be a PITA.

I'll have a look in the morning at the wiring schematic - I think the wiring is there in the multi-block connector, but a module will need coding and obviously another switch module in the door. Will get back to you soon...

Are you talking about pushing the button on the interior to fold them?
You can fold them by holding your lock button on you key fob

maybe its had a mod, i'm sure that i read somewhere that if you get the "Smart roof" electronic gizmo thingy for the E93 that you can get the mirrors to fold on the key, but BMW don't offer this

My mirrors fold when holding the fob lock button for 2 seconds after locking the car - as soon as they start folding you can let go and it continues. I assumed they all did this. It also starts to close the sunblind on the panoramic roof which is mildly irritating however (useful in the summer if you forget I suppose).

I suppose when I say PITA, I consider it a pain in the ass if the mirrors always fold when the ignition is switched off. It means I don't have control over their position.

I only want them folded when there is the possibility of obstruction or going through somewhere narrow.

Some cars don't have a separate button at all so let's say your garage has a narrow opening and you want to reverse in, keeping close to the left side. With the BMW, I can fold the mirror as I pass the entrance then open it again to see how close to the wall I am. If they fold automatically, no can do.

I am parked, waiting for someone to come out of a building that's behind me. What's more natural than to glance in the door mirror from time to time? Your engine's off - and your mirrors are closed.

You are taking photos of your car, on your own, you're not going to photograph it with the mirrors folded so there you are, standing twenty feet away from it -with the keys in the ignition and the ignition on - that's real clever!

With a button, I don't have to bother my ass about any of these things (feel free to make up your own examples), and the mirrors are folded when I want them folded.

I don't mind pushing the button at all as I only use this feature when I'm parked on the street. And I don't park on the street that often. Using it all the time will just wear the mechanism out quicker. Use it only when you need it, and not because it looks cool.

I have got the roof module fitted and the added extra is that the mirrors fold off the key, two presses to open / close. I believe there is no way to operate the mirrors as standard in the E9xx range.
