Anyone wanna help me take my back seat apart?

I'm trying to install the SmartTop module that I got so that I can do remote top-down among other things. But I'm stuck on the 2nd step of the install where you have to take the back seat apart to get at the electronics. After you remove the head rest, there's some latches to take the head rest brackets off. Can't figure them out. Don't want to break anything.

Anyone got diagrams or pictures of how you might do this? Or some free time tonight or tomorrow afternoon?

According to the instructions, I have to get the seat back off to get the necessary electronics. And to get the seat back off, I have to remove the headrest brackets. And those are what is stumping me.

What electronics? In the back seat? There are no electronics in the rear seat, not even for the seatbelts. They are an electronics free zone. What exactly do these instructions say?

I have a convertible, that's where the stuff for the top is. This module is for that. I need to get behind that seat.

Here's the instructions: http://www.wit-usa.com/sms/db/smartt...stall_1/en.php

OK - Now I get it. It sounds like it just needs a little tension on the scredriver to push in the indent, while you have someone pry up on the headrest. I have some plastic prybars for projects like this. Too bad I am about 4,000 miles away!

amy the clip is inside the hole where teh head rest pulls out from, unclip the with flat head you'll be able to remove the whole thing up. the rest is hold by few clips and just give it some force it'll come out.

if you like help I'll be happy to lend you a hand, I live in Waltham. PM me if you want my help.

No, I haven't reattempted it yet. I have some ideas now and I'm gonna look at it again in the morning with a flashlight. And if I'm still stumped, I'm going to mugennosora's house and he's gonna help!

Okay, armed with a flashlight I learned that the piece I was playing with wasn't the latch. And that my screwdriver was too damned big. My landlord gave me some tiny awl type tools and one side is out. Back to attempt the other side!

Thanks again, Tony, for offering to help. I've got the whole thing installed and Orca is reassembled!

Now I have to figure out how to configure it in the dash to activate it! (that's not the instructions that I printed out).

My smartTOP is completely installed and activated. And I'm delighted by it.

Small things make me happy.

So what does the Smart Top do exactly? Is it the same as Convenient Access?

Kind of, adds one touch to open/close roof, remote open/close and auto fold mirrors etc.

It doesn't do the keyless driving that CA does, but it does do the remote top up/down. And the one-touch top operation is totally worth it too.

If you didn't get CA, this is quite worthwhile if you have a vert.
