If I track my M3 all the time and run through the brakes a lot
will BMW free maintenance continue to pick that up? Say if I need 4 sets of brakes on one year or something because I'm living at the track??

at first thought, i would think so. maint. is covered for 4/50000, doesn't say how many times during that time period, only what the car requires, i.e. oil change when cars says its needed is free. shouldn't brakes be the same.
but I probably wouldn't tell them you were at the track to be safe, just a heavy, heavy foot and normal driving lol.

they won't do it. All dealers are different and you could probably get away with them switching it out once but after that they'll definitely know you're always at the track. I met a forum member who tracked quite a bit last year and the dealer knew and wouldn't replace the pads so he just got a BBK

I don't think that they necessarily will. Based on my last conversation with an SA when I thought I needed a new clutch, it seems that the dealer will check your car's mileage at which you need something to be fixed/replaced and they see if the mileage is within the range that they believe/think that certain problem should occur. And this affects whether or not they will cover it (guess it's considered "normal wear and tear") or if it's due to your "abnormal" driving (for lack of a better word). But I'm not 100% sure.
Definitely DON'T tell them that you track the car a lot (if you need brakes more than normal they'll probably already be thinking that you visit the track a lot). And I'm sure that they'll find any excuse not to replace your brakes since they're expensive. I'm sure someone else here will give you more of a straight answer though

They might do it once if they don't pay attention but they'd notice the second time.

If you are lucky, they might do it. They would not do it for me @9k miles. BMW wanted $2700 for all 4 brakes (rotors/pads) but I had a local mechanic do it for $1700 (using BMW parts from the dealer.)
BMW service (2 dealers) and BMW USA was very rude, and doesn't give a s..t about customer loyalty. I called them after my experience (BMW USA Customer service) and told them that this is the LAST BMW that I'll buy (#6 in 9 years) and asked them to take me off ALL their mailing lists. The rep just said "ok." and asked me if there was anything else. Interestingly my Porsche just ran out of warranty, and had some trim wear, and audio dial wear. The dealer covered it without a question (about $1500 in parts alone.) |

Man up and pay for the brakes you use up. The intent of free maintenance is to provide a quality product to all of us. Cheap bastards that abuse the system will ruin it for the rest of us. I'll buy track pads and use them instead of wasting my street pads and then asking BMW to replace them for me.

That's not the point. The point is that the no maintenance costs ad, like I've said all along, is just marketing. There are so many damn **asterisks and conditions. That's why I won't wait until 15K to change the oil...it's part of the same ploy.

Nop, brakes and some other components are not covered by the service agreement. Only if the malfunction somehow. But track ware and tear is hardly maintenance. Its similar to destroying your tires in 5,000 miles. No reasons Michelin should change them

BMW does a great job of marketing the M's performance and track abilities as well as their $0 cost maintenace program. It's not being cheap to expect them to honor their own program. Of course, abuse shoudn't be covered, but some will just use it more than others... I'm sure you're no one here is naive enough to believe they didn't already build those cost into the car.

Read the manual guys. It clearly states that the free maintenance program does NOT cover replacement costs for parts that need replacement prior to their normal wear and tear interval.
So, if you show up with worn out pads with 5000 miles on your car, what do you think will happen? I'm pretty sure they would be willing to do 2 brake jobs over the 50000 miles though, maybe 3 on an M car.

well when i took my 325i in for service at abut 25000 miles, they only changed my brake pads, but not rotors. it clearly needed rotors because they had a huge lip from wear, and they were really rusty, but the dealer told me that they were just "fine". i eneded up taking it to a friend's shop and he grinded the surface so they were like new again...

I had the pads & rotors replaced on my E46 twice and I tracked/autox'd it. The first time I went to the track was with the sales associate who sold me the E46 and one of the owners of the dealership. It might depend on the dealer, though. A lot of the people who work at that dealer track their cars.

Get what you can out of the dealership but, I think you might be more satisfied with non-OEM pads (less fade). I used to run Porterfields and was pleased with less fade and far less dust:

I never knew brakes would be covered...isn't it considered a wear and tear item? like tires and clutch?
