What's This Inside the Wheel Well?
While doing OEM alarm installs on my 335 and a buddies M3, after taking off the shroud around the driver-side wheel well, we saw this blue adapter looking thing in both cars - anyone know what this is??
The M3 also had a black looking actuator inside his wheel well of which I didn't have, might have been for the adjustable suspension? |

It seems like it could be the outside air thermometer

Nope. That is inside the tire strapped to the rims.

No way it's a thermistor, they're in the front of the car in the air intake stream. It is intriguing though. What are the rough dimensions? Odd that they made it blue rather than black. Can't be a safety related device (sensor, etc.), it's the wrong color and it isn't securely fastened to the car. It looks too complex just to be a weathertight connector but it could be. Is there a clip or other facility to 'disconnect' the device, one side from the other? Can you make out the origin or terminus of the harness? Are there any numbers or other marking on it?
If it were a suspension related sensor it wouldn't be attached to the fenderwell. My gut feeling is that it is a connector which contains some minor electronics. But for what I don't know. |

+1. While changing the brakes in my buddy's e46 330i, we had to disconnect a similar looking device for the brake pad sensor. I don't remember it being bright blue though.
