EDC malfunction a day after H&R Sport spring install

So I took my car in on Thursday to a very reputable shop to have them install my new H&R springs and spacers. I picked up the car and they said the procedure went very smoothly and it seemed fine on the drive home.

Friday, I drove to work and everything seemed fine as well, but today when I was running around, I got the error and it persisted the rest of the day.

Any ideas what the tech may have done or not done for this to happen??? loose connector maybe? i highly doubt that i could have ruined a shock in basically an hour's worth of total drive time since the springs were installed. i went over a few speed bumps in parking lots, but very, very carefully as i normally did prior to lowering my car.

i think the shop is closed for the weekend, but it would be good to see if any of you ran into this so i can give the tech/shop some ideas to follow-up on.

thanks.

As it seems you already know you don't need EDC compatible springs - there is no such thing. Both folks above are very likely correct you have a loose connector from the harness to one of the shocks/struts.

providing it's just a loose connector as all of us suspect, will the idrive error go away as a result of re-connecting the loose connector? for example, with the tpms errors, there is a way to reset the error so it goes away.

Pretty sure that's what someone else said happened. Reconnected and it cleared.

Which shop did you use? Tru Line?

I went to Group 2 (http://group2inc.com) on the recommendation of several other local E9x'ers in the area. They are a great shop with really knowledgeable techs. I'll give them a call tomorrow and hopefully get it back there in the next day or two.

just to follow-up on this, we were all correct in guessing it was nothing more than a loose connector. the embarrassing part was realizing that getting to the EDC connectors was as simple as popping the hood and lifting one cap to expose it. i thought the connectors would be accessible through the wheel wells.

the connector is pretty flimsy and poorly designed if you ask me, but in any event, it took a minute to fix and all is well now.

I actually went to Group 2 with the BMW club on Sat and talked to Chris (I live in Magnolia and have been going to Group 2 for a while. Great bunch of guys). Since I had mentioned to Chris in the past that I may be interesting in getting H&R springs for my M3, he mentioned that he had just done one with EDC. I guess you are the guy!

So, how is the ride? Can you tell any difference vs. stock springs. What conditions is it better or worse?

Thanks much for the info.

yeah, Group 2 is great. i'll go back there for all my work in the future.

the ride is pretty nice. it's a little harsher than stock, but that's to be expected. i say that though in the context of driving around the shitty city streets of seattle. out on the highway, it feels completely smooth and balanced. i feel a bit more "connected" to the road on the highway as well.

as far as looks go, it completely changed the character of my car. it gets even more looks now than it did before. i also had H&R spacers put on at the same time too so that may have added to it. e92 m3s need to be dropped.

if you're considering new springs, i highly recommend the H&R sport. perfect drop, great feel and plays well with EDC.

Sounds like you are very happy. Can you post some photos when you get a chance. Better yet, hopefully we can get a Puget Sound E9X M3 get together soon and I can check it out in person ;-)

Thanks,

i usually go to the local meets and the next one is probably coming up. otherwise, i wanted to take pics last weekend, but ended up being too busy and then the weather has been shitty the last few days. i'll get some taken soon.

i am totally loving the springs and spacers.

So how are the H&R springs behaving a couple of months after install. Any issue with EDC. How's the ride?

I am thinking of having Group 2 install some on my car.
Thanks,

If you need help installing the springs or have any questions let me know. I installed mine myself back in January in my garage using hand tools. Very straightforward though a bit time consuming, but you do learn a bit about your car!

Does lowering the car with springs mess with the suspension "M" drive system settings? IOW, I I select comfort or normal or sport settings on the EDC, does it still work as intended? How much lower are the H&R springs compared to stock? I lowered my 93Aero Saab I had and ended up going with Koni shocks because there was so much debate over the struts being compressed 15mm would eventually beat the hell out of the shock system. Is this a problem with the M3's shocks?? Thanks,

Thanks for the offer. I have installed springs in the past. I think I am going to have Group 2 do the install this time though. I like these guys.

Did you install H&Rs. Are you happy with them? Chris at Group 2 thinks that the spring rate is only about 10 to 15% higher than stock so that is doesn't degrade ride quality much. Is this true? This would be what I am looking for. I like the current ride quality, I just want the car to sit lower.

Thanks,
