Will the new Ca. sales tax hit my 1er?

I read today that a compromise was struck and the long awaited California budget is expected to pass on Friday. In it there is an added 1% sales tax and a near doubling on car registration tax.

Does anyone here know how soon the sales tax increase will hit?

I'm taking deliver very soon (early March) and it could make more than a $500 price difference in the purchase price of my car.

The 1% sales tax increase arrives April 1st.

VLF goes up .50 to 1.15% in mid-May

Looks like you are good.

Just took delivery yesterday, thankfully.

No 1% sales increase and VLF still on the old rate - so I'm good for the year, anyway.

if you take US delivery in CA after Apr 1st then you are screwed even if you ordered the car months ago prior to the legislation.

The tax increase is based on the contract date or the registration date (the legislation mentions both dates). If you buy a car in CA for US delivery then the contact date is always the registration date. If you do Euro Delivery you *may* be able to avoid the tax by paying before Apr 1 as the contact date is different from the registration date.

I have a directive to apply new tax rates into our Financials system, effective April 1.

And yes, I see the increase in my vehicle registration, which I received yesterday, due May.

Glad I slipped under the wire. I just missed the M sport package by a couple of days when I ordered, but my consolation prize is no 1% sales tax increase, .5% less registration, and two months free payments (total $1500) on the BMW finance package. All told my 1er would have cost me about $2500 more after April 1.

I suppose I could spend my savings on the M sport goodies,...
