Question about US and European warranties.
________________________________________
I know that in Europe you get 2 years with unlimited miles and here in the states you get 4 years with 50k miles. I got my E92 in July 08 so with the stateside warranty I lose it in July 2012. If I have the euro warranty, it will run out in July 2010. I am moving to Germany this summer so if late next year I decided to do something with car that would normally void the warranty would I have problems if I moved back to the states? In July 2010 I wouldn’t have a warranty on my E92 in Germany but if I was in the states I would. Last edited by oilcrankinject; 02-07-2009 at 10:43 AM.. Reason: wawawa "warrenty" instead of "warranty" |

Car purchased via USA dealer system (including ED & Military sales) should have USA warranty regardless of where car is. That said, moving cars back and forth to Euro is not easy, and depending on location, you might have issues with dealers in Euro. I think the best solution is to lease a car in Euro, keep or sell your USA car here. This is a military service issue; you can get the best advice from your buddies that have been there done that recently.

I think this has to be researched. It's possible that the car (for service beyond the first two years) would have to be taken to an authorized BMW NA dealership.

So I type "euro" instead of "Europe." Get a life.
I am still waiting on a responce for BMWNA. My car started with a European warrenty as I ordered the car in Germany and my buddy had to pick it up there. When my car got to the states I had to send in some paperwork to BMWNA to get the US warrenty. This should be fun. Its only took 4 months for me to get stateside plates. |

If BMW NA picked up the warranty once it got to the US, it shouldn't matter if the car then goes back to Europe and back to the US again. The US warranty is for 4 years, 50K miles. If it's back in the U(S)SA before July 2012 it would still be under warranty. That is, unless you've modified something to the car that would have voided the warranty. Since the car is in the US I think you may have a warranty issue even when you first get to Germany. Because it now has the US warranty through BMW NA it may not be eligible for a European warranty even though it is less than two years old. I suggest you speak with the dealer you used originally in Germany and try to get the answers before you move. Certainly worth a stamp.
It's an interesting situation that may not even be unique. You should post any answers you get so the next person in a like situation can benefit.

2 year warranty in Germany. BMW NA picks it up once you get back as long as it is inside their warranty parameters.
Switching back and forth shouldn't matter. |

That is pure speculation of course. I would not be so sure that a 3-year-old car back in Germany will receive warranty coverage there. The dealerships do not recognize BMW NA. In fact, that is why for the M5 and M6 the customer has to pay for the 2000 kilometer oil service if the car is still in Germany.

This is what MSP CA told me. The NA warranty is ONLY good in NA. Live in Germany, then you fall under the coverage of the BMW AG.
This only applies if you are on Orders and Living overseas, Germany in particular. And no a 3 year old Car in the US would NOT receive coverage here because BMW AG only covers 2 years. |

I am just wondering is I say, upgraded the turbos on my car while it was out of warrenty in Germany, then brought it back here when it would be under warrenty.
I have to head to my local dealer on Monday to get my mirror replaced (cracked in cold weather) so I will ask them at that time. |

Not easy to get new car in Europe, active military personnel in overseas postings get allowances to bring their cars over to where they serve.
