GP Thunders or LED Markers - Confused

Guys,

I've done several searches and I admit defeat in trying to understand the difference.

I'm keen on getting rid of the dirty yellow daytime running lights on my 2007 e92 335i.

Initially I assumed a direct replace with 7500k 35w GP Thunder bulbs (I gathered this much from searching). However I see Teddy at SSDD selling something calld LED Markers, these are significantly more expensive.

Can someone please explain the difference between the bulbs and the markers?

I,am running with GP Thunders 35 watt replacements and it has made a considerable effect on the yellowness whilst in daytime running. The LED replacements are made to shine a bright white light straight onto the internal fibre optics creating a much whiter intense light. I,am happy with the thunders for the price unless the LED's come down in price.

Zaytar, greatbm has given a good description of the difference between the 2 types, and yes the LED's are expensive.

Give Teddy a call, I'm sure he'd give you a discount, let him know you are a member here

the led's are whiter and brighter than standard. the gp's do not give an even light on the outer/inner lights whereas the led's do. they come with resistors so no bulb failure warning either. the standard drl's come on brighter than the side lights but the led's dont change. expensive but worth it.

Thanks all.

I think I do prefer the LEDs. But at 10 times the price of the bulbs will take some further thinking.

The LEDs are much better than the GP Thunders, especially at night. However, they look very similar during daylight. I've got the GP Thunders and I'm very pleased with them given the price. I won't change to LEDs until the price is much more sensible

GP thunders 750k and OE

Enough said

The LED's I've seen in daylight conditions look slightly dimmer than GP's

I'm in two minds about this. The OEM have the advantage of being and looking OEM - I can't help feeling that the blue-tint looks too aftermarket / Halfords kind of thing like those dreadful CCFLs that people insist on blu-tacking to their E46 / E36.

To the eye I found the GP's to look less blue than in the photos, I think my camera colour balance makes them look bluer.

I have the GP Thunders... I'd consider the LEDs if we could get a say 25-35% group buy discount.

Ian, the GP Thunders are not very blue, not mine anyway. They are actually white and are a better match with the xenon bulb

They still retain the OEM look very well, IMO

Creepy, I agree, the LEDs on Naz's M3 were actually dimmer in the daytime than my GP Thunders

GP Thunders on mine, no complaints. Switch the DRLs on all the time in I-Drive or the instrument stalk and they are plenty bright enough.

We have our first batch of LED's for the E92 coming in next week to as an alternative to the GP Thunders we stock. I can set up a group buy if there is some interest. RRP on these is £109 - we could probably do a 25% discount on a group buy of 10.

I'll work out proper pricing when they have landed.

Just to clarify for you, mate, LED "Sidemarkers" are replacement bulbs for the little light on the sides in front of the doors. They light up when entering/exiting and when the turn signal is on.
