AW or not AW that is the question...

Ever since the beginning of time, there's always been some question or other that has deeply confused mankind. If you like big numbers and have faith in archeologists, then you might ask: why have we been around for a couple million years yet still haven't figured out what love is? Or why are we still trying to figure out the meaning of life?

One reasonable answer is that we asked these questions so many times, they eventually became cliché and people decided they weren't worth the brain cells they fried. However, there comes a time in man's evolution when another truly deep, truly philosophical question must be posed to challenge our under-used brain cells: why white? or less abstractly, why do so many 1er drivers like Alpine White?

I've heard that orange is an appetizing color (which would explain all those orange plates and cups you find in boarding school dining halls). Blue is, well, blue. It's everywhere. Same with green. Black is scary (if you are afraid of the dark) or cool (if you have that hip-hop vibe or work for the CIA, FBI or MIB). Yellow is the color of the sun, red the color of blood and purple the color of a sore wound (...cheery, I know).

Every color, great and small, seems to have a purpose...then you get to Alpine White. Why do so many people buy white cars? Although I don't have anything against white cars, lol, please explain me what I am missing here?

So 1addicts, what's with the affinity for Alpine White?

white is the new black....

i reckon most modern sporty cars look hot with white because it has nice contrast with other parts of the car e.g. kidney grill, tinted windows, etc. It has a nice "clean" look about it, and generally is quite striking to look at.

Being $1800 AUD cheaper than most of the other colours is also a bonus that can't be overlooked!

The only downside to AW in my opinion, is that you can't get a deep glossy finish on the paintwork like you can with darker colours.

Good question. My last sports car (Boxster) was black, and it was purchased back when a black sports car was all I ever dreamed about. That is, until I'd had it a while, and learned how hard black was to keep clean. And how its hood and front fender showed EVERY pit, scratch, and pea-gravel ding. When the time came to trade-in, I might've considered Guards Red if I'd gotten another Porsche. Otherwise, it was going to be white, white, white. No regrets. Does not show dirt very much. Cooler in Texas summer sun, too.

Viva blanc, mon ami!

For me white seems like a blank page...it's like the car is still waiting to be painted, but nothing is going to happen. It's white, white, white lol!
It doesn't have all the shininess the other colors have. But I kinda start to understand where you guys come from on the white...

white seems pure to me, very classy, sporty, and one relaxing color, ready to fulfill it's owner's desire of elegance and aggression. it's like an angel every little thoughts and wounds is exposed to you.

I got AW because I really wanted the red leather and it was the one color I thought would go the best with it. Having seen Rachel's car, the double red does look good, but I didn't know sight-unseen.

However, since I don't have a garage or a winter car, she's dirty as hell tonight. Still got a compliment at the gas station though.

White looks awesome. On Porsches. On Jags. On 135i's.
Pure. Clean. Ready to have #'s put on the doors.
Don't hide your car under some colored cloak.
Let its lines speak for themselves. JMHO
(plus it is hot in the south and white stays cooler)

Out of my last 4 cars, 3 were silver and one was sand. I figured that if I got another silver car people would tallk about me, so I got white.

White is also the color of my refrigerator! LOL, joking AW owners.

Safety reasons -- my folks drove white cars cuz it's easiest to spot at night.

I've had both black & white. When I'm in the mood for just that deep luster that only back can provide I drive the black cars. When I am in the mood to drive a car with some serious graphics I go for silver or white. It's pretty simple...with black you can't change the color...with white or silver when I want change I get new graphics.
