Yup, I'm upgrading so I need to get the cash to do so by selling my current camera.

His ad says "D300"!
Man, the timing on all this is just too soon! I'm thinking about getting back into the SLR game, but as usual, I've convinced myself I need a D90 and the 18-200 VR lens! Go a little crazy and add the 12-24 for $1,000, or very crazy with the 14-24 for $1,700. So now I see a D70s for sale on another BMW forum (local section), now this D60 here. D80's are discounted pretty well right now too. Decisions, decisions!

Sheesh you can buy my D80 so that I can buy a D90.. and yes I have the 12-200VR lens , best dam lens out there. I hardly switch over to my Tokina macro lens except for vista shots. Nikon rocks the casbah!

Looks like I've got an offer! Real happy about it considering that the first 5 offers were clearly scams (pay $200 extra to ship to Budapest, all over Paypal).
The person wants me to hold it for a while until they can produce the money. Does it happen to be anyone here? |

Not I. After going to the store and doing some fondling, I want either the D90 or the D300. The "dream kit" is about $4,500 though, so I think I'm going to have to temper that with a real high dose of reality. Of course, that contains one lens that costs as much as the D300 body, so......

I doubt Camera's West will match that price "out the door." I might have to try though.....

Well, I was at Camera's West again today checking out the Canon 40D & 50D, as well as the Nikon D90 and D300. The only thing that shies me away from the D300 is the lack of a "dummy" setting (Auto.) That pretty much means the wife will never, ever use the camera. Wait, maybe that should go in the "pro" column instead of the "con."
If I get the D90, I can spend more on better glass. But I still can't get the 70-200 f/2.8 into the budget right now. I just can't decide what to pull the trigger on. I do like the ergo's on the D300 better than the D90. The Canon's were fine too, but the placement of the rear thumbwheel dial seemed a little odd. I like the placement of the thumbwheel on the Nikons better. Nikon is still running their lens promo's too while Canon is not. Decisions, decisions.....

70-200? That's the price you have to pay for an FX full-frame camera. If you get the D90, you would pay a fraction of that for a more versatile lens with the 18-200VR. But it depends on what you want to do - The D300 is too much on the pro side for me in terms of features/functions, the D90 is more up my alley.

Yeah there's an instant rebate going on right now for Nikons. It ends January 31st, so you better decide quickly before those prices jump again.
EDIT: BTW, there is an auto-mode on the D300. It's named "P", standing for programmable auto. Basically the camera decides shutter speed and aperture while you choose which combination (wide aperture, fast shutter speed; tiny aperture, slow shutter speed) of the two you'd like to use. All combos give the same exposure, but different DoFs depending on which one you chose. Just tell your wife to set it to P and flick the dial (can't remember, rear or front dial) to the left until the aperture is at its widest setting. Last edited by TWiTCHY; 01-28-2009 at 11:58 PM.. |

The 70-200 f/2.8 is for shooting the girls doing their ballet dance routines. Low lighting + far away = much better glass needed. The 18-200VR is a great lens, but at 5.6 at 200mm, it is pretty slow in comparison. Quote:

I wish Nikon made a lens similar to the Canon 70-200 F/4L IS USM ($1,100) or the 70-200 F/2.8L USM ($1,190.) The decision would be easy then, but the Nikon 70-200 is $1,650. I guess I could look at the 80-200 F/2.8 for around $950 though. Man, we've really

Yep, I've got it in the shopping cart with $10,000 worth of other stuff. Not planning on buying everything in there, but it is an easier way for me to track prices on the items I'm considering. Locally it is $2,100, but then I'd have add the sales tax, which adds $189. Damn sales tax....
