BMW Performance Suspension Question

The propaganda on the BMWUSA Web site mentions that for optimum ride quality, 18" wheels/tires should be used with the Performance Suspension. At first this bummed me out because I want to use 17" for winter, and I thought that was not recommended. Then after thinking about it I thought the recommendation might be no larger than 18".

Any insight on this?

Have Fun,
Rick

For the 1 series, it's recommended to not be larger than 18's.. 19's, for the 3 series. The suspension will lower the car about 1/2" in the front and 3/4" in the rear. To prevent any concern for rubbing, it's recommended to use 18's.

Thanks Dan - I was considering 17" for my winter setup, but I went with a set of non-staggered Style 182s and Dunlop 3Ds.

Any photos of 135i's w/ the BMW Performance suspension? I'd like to see how low it is/isn't.

Thanks, but for some things I am very much old school - and that is one of them.

I got the silver ones from a local dealer, and applied 2 coats of Wheel Wax front and back. Ordered the tires from Gill, and I drop off the wheels tomorrow to have the tires mounted and balanced.

When the car gets delivered, I'll drive it home and swap into the winter setup as soon as I possibly can. Then two coats of Wheel Wax for the stock wheels.

I'm stoked - I'm hoping to be in my car before Christmas.

Have Fun,
Rick

Dan, can you post some photos of Style 182 in black? I'd like to see what it looks like. By any chance would BMW make the BMW Performance Wheels in black? That would be hot!!!

I understand they reccomend 18" but is 19" possible?

Here's the quote from the BMWUSA Web site:
Quote:
For optimum ride quality, BMW Performance Suspension should be used in combination with 18" tires. Two front and two rear suspension springs are required and the axle must be aligned at installation.
Since it says "ride quality," my guess is you could do it, but you might not like it.

My OP was based around whether I could use 17" for my winter setup if I got the Performance Suspension. I decided to go with non-staggered 18", but the question still sits in the back of my mind, because skinny tires are better for snow than fat ones.

Have Fun,
Rick

I went to my local bmw and talked to the dinan guy about traction and how it would be with a software upgrade (like dinan or jb3). I told the guy I wanted rims that would help me with traction.. (this is total noob question) but since the bmw performance rims are the same width as stock, there would be no help in traction compared to the stock ones? If not, im just going to stick with stock. He was tellin me how the 1er always has traction problems so it made me think
