Clunk/Pop sound from rear
I notice a Pop or Clunk sound coming from the rear of the car when taking turns or if I go over a speed bump with one from wheel before the other. Has anyone else had this problem? Sounds like it is either from the trunk or some place under the rear of the car.

Bringing back up my very old thread. Anyone else having this problem? This problem is starting to really bother me...
Dealer says they can not fix it so I am thinking of trying another dealer... |

I have the same noise. I took it to the dealer and they acknowledged the noise but said it was too faint and BMW will not pay for the warranty work for something this minor. The noise comes and goes; right now it is not doing it.
Does your car have the fold down rear seats? Mine does, just looking for clues.

The dealer did hear it but they could not track it down to an exact area. They seemed to think it was coming from the sunroof cassette. They did lube the reat seat latches and that seemed to help for a day so I really have no clue where this is coming from. I just do not want them to tear apart my brand new car. They never go back together the way they came from the factory... |

Just curious, have you tried folding down the seats, driving around and checking for the noise.
I only say this because I have not noticed my noise since I had the seatback folded down and then put back upright. I am leaning towards the folding seatback theory. Another point; does anyone know if the cars without folding seats have a sheet metal bulkhead behind the rear seats? I wonder if we lose some structural reinforcement with the folding seats.

Is everything buckled down in the battery/trunk area. I believe there are some tools that come with the car back there. I could be wrong.

In my case the answer is yes. I took everything that was not bolted down out. It does sound like something rolling and banging into something but neither I nor the dealer could find anything loose.

The dealer has a tool where they can mount microphones around the car to determine where the sound is coming from. On my wife's MDX she was getting a clear clunking noise from below the truck. At first they didn't know what it was so they used the microphones and realized that a bolt was loose on the control arm. Maybe they could use something like that to diagnose the issue? Also, did you have someone ride back there (or drive while you sit back there) to try and isolate it?

Has anyone else had this fixed? I am still having the problem and would love to find out where it is coming from. The dealer is telling me that it is normal body flex...right! If it was normal all cars would do it. The shop foreman at another dealership told me it was a manufacturing defect so my guess is this is not normal.
