Replicating 128 sport suspension
Does anyone know, for certain, if the 135 springs are the same as the 128 sport springs. If I put a set of 135 springs on my 128i (not sport) would that be the equivalent of the sport suspension? Or would I also need to replace shocks or other parts?
I would love a bit stiffer suspension and having the car lowered a half inch or so. Installing 135 springs sounds perfect, if I don't have to buy a bunch of other parts. Thanks to you experts for making this a great site. It just makes owning a great car that much better to have a resource like this! |

Springs, strut/shocks, and swaybars at a minimum. Don't know if bushings are different or not.

According to RealOEM.com, you would need to replace the struts/shocks and swaybars (though swaybar bushings appear to be the same). The standard 128i struts/shocks and swaybars have different part numbers from those on the 135i, but the 128i sport suspension share the same numbers with the 135i. They don't have enough info on the springs, but I'd guess you'd need to replace those too.

Thanks, still might just get springs
Thanks so much for all the information and assistance. That's what makes this site (and Series 1 folks in general) the best.
At this point, it seems like a lot more extensive than I was originally hoping for. I'm probably not going to go all the way to new shocks, bars, etc. But I'm guessing that if guys like H&R have springs that work with the stock shocks, bars, etc, then the stock 135 springs should be similar. A little stiffer, a bit shorter, sounds like a mild upgrade like the H&R OE Sport Spring. Now I just have to find a local shop that can do a spring install for a reasonable cost. So far, the dealer has quoted me $1,000 installation, while one local shop wanted $700+. Is this something I could have the local Goodyear or Firestone shop do, then have my dealer just do the alignment? |

keep us posted on your progress, upstate. I've got non-sport suspension on mine too and i'd love to upgrade at some point. I've been looking at BMW Performance Suspension kit myself...
