Golden Gate Chapter BMW Mt. Hamilton tour - Sept 13

Looks like a fun tour. Anyone else interested?

Quote:
September 13 - Join us for a twin peaks tour! This will be a two-mountain tour of some twisty, two-lane roads from Mt. Hamilton to Mt. Diablo and back.

We'll start at the Starbucks at the junction of Capital Expressway and Tully Road in San Jose, make our way up and over Mt. Hamilton, through the Livermore valley, across the eastern slopes of Mt. Diablo and stop for lunch in quaint Clayton. From there we'll follow a winding route back to San Jose.

Driver's meeting is at 8:45 am, departure time from the parking lot is 9:00 am, so make sure to arrive half an hour to forty five minutes early so you can sign the waiver, get caffeinated, and attend the driver's meeting alert and perky.

This drive is a bit more than 200 miles in length. Since we'll be stopping in a number of the parks along the way, plan on a full day of adventure. There will be opportunities to cut the route short, if you are pressed for time.

Note that we won't be stopping for lunch until nearly 2 pm, so it would be a good plan to pack some snacks. Please arrive on time and with the directions and route map printed out. They are posted to the right of this page under "Additional Documents." If you are late, it is possible to catch up with the group---refer to the estimated clock times at each stopping point -- but it can still be amazingly difficult to find a group of cars once they're in motion.

I haven't got my 1 yet. Could I still join in?
My Honda would look pretty out of place in a pack of BMWs. Maybe someone would be willing to let me ride shotgun in their car?

I live in the shadow of Mt. Diablo so I'd probably just meet up for that portion of the drive.

Owning a BMW is not a requirement of the BMW CCA. We have all types of cars that show up for autox, car control clinics and tours. One of our autox setup guys runs a Honda S2000. Great little car. Quite a screamer once it gets moving.

I'm sure your prelude would be more than welcome. By the way, I am astounded you actually own an SH prelude! Very rare. Got pics?!?

Awesome. Photos from the tours usually end up on the front cover of the chapter newsletter. I would love a line of 1-ers on the cover .

You're joking, right? Why would anyone want to see pictures of my 11+ year old beater?

If you're really serious, I guess I could post some pics. I'm gonna feel really stupid if you were joking.

Hey I was an hour behind and I caught up, just means you have a challenge. (Actually, I managed to pass them without noticing, and then waited for them to catch up to me.)

LOL!! NICE!! So how was it? I'm sure you all had a blast. How many 1ers? Did you do the whole thing? Alright, getting ready to go to Oakland for Janet Jackson concert, hope that this will be worth it for missing the drive...lol

Good times, three 1s, a 2002tii, couple e30s and others. Someone had a daytona violet e36 M3 - which is the same car I had before the 1, it brought a tear to my eye. Mt. Hamilton is a great drive, I ran with a Yamaha R1 on the back side.

Your prelude still sells for around 7-9k. Not bad for an 11 year old beater.
It's just rare to see an SH. For instance, a lady from the corporate officer comes in once a week with her 01 Integra Type R. Bought it new for 24k still sells for close to 20k. Love how they hold their value. Hope to see pics of you 1 soon.

I remember a while back when I was at a dealership and was thinking about trading in my Prelude, the dealership was going to offer me something in the neighborhood of $2.5k-3 for it. Keep in mind that my car now has 147k miles on it. If someone were to offer me 7-9k for it now, I would be amazed.

I haven't ordered the 1 yet. I'm going to do european delivery next spring or early summer so it's going to be a while. That gives me plenty of time to decide on options and colors since I seem to change my mind every day.

Maybe after I get some new tires on my Prelude, I can join all of you on the next mountain run. I was hoping to put off getting new tires for the car till after I got my 1 but seeing as how it won't be till next year, I better get on it.

Here is a blurry picture I took of the dash of my car when it hit 100k back in April of 2004.
