i Phone Dyno, New & Improved with "Dynolicious" Pix
MODS feel free to move if necessary.
Here's a link to an app for a G meter for your i-phone. I haven't actually downloaded it yet, so I can't speak to its effectiveness. I think it's $12.99 for the download via the apple apps site. http://www.dynolicious.com/ |

I'm downloading it right now onto the phone. I won't get to test it though since I'm still breaking the car in.

very cool.
i wish they would incorporate gps, but the iphone sample rate is only 1 hz for gps right now. perhaps an app could be written to get it to sample faster (why not, after all). considering the cheapest gps lap timer i've seen is the performancebox ($500), it seems worth the effort for an app writer! |

you know, i thought i had read that some months ago, but now i've looked i can't find it... i guess software could conceivable tell it to sample as often as one would wish?
edit: looks like 1hz is the typical refresh rate for consumer gps devices. i guess that was what i was thinking about. data loggers for racing applications are 10 hz, from what i've seen. |

I can't get my phone to perform the calibration test. It gets all the way to the one where you have put the screen face down. I put the phone face down but it never moves past that point.
I have a 1st Gen iphone, BTW

Lol!! I didn't get to delete that darned thing in time for quickdraw Xin! lol
All you need is an un-jailbroken iPhone/Touch updated to v2.0, supposedly. I did update my post above though. |

Dyno Program for iPhone
I just tried it out (0-60, I was driving on the highway and didn't want to speed so the 1/4 mile time was something like 20 seconds) and for $13 it is an incredible program. I am using 2.0 on an original iPhone, I don't know if it is dependant on GPS for 0-60 and 1/4 as the 0-60 time was pretty slow (6 seconds and I know I did faster than that) the G forces and horsepower rating seemed to be right on (.95 G acceleration and 295 horsepower to the tires). I am interested if anyone else, especially with a 3G phone has tried it out.

I gave it a few tries.
0-60 was consistantly around 5.5 seconds, 1/4th in the high 13s at 102-107, with 2.4s 60'. No idea how accurate it is. Trap speed seems to be in the right ballpark, but 60' seems a bit slow to me.

Im going to test this tomorrow in my various cars, but my arm moving around my head produced 1200 hp and more than a G of force! HA!
I'll use my Escort G at the same time and see what the difference is. |
