bonaire 10 inch random orbital
Anyone have any experience with this thing? My wife grabbed one at Costco today while buying me some microfiber cloths since it was the last one on the rack and she knew I had been eyeing orbitals. I know the 10" seems a bit large. It uses cotton bonnets. I am wondering whether I should give it a try or just return it. It was only like $19.95, so I am bit suspicious, since the Griots and Porter cable run like $130.

I have no experience in this area but I wouldn't trust a $19.95 orbital when the quality orbitals are costing what they do. I'm not saying that high cost equals high quality but a $20 orbital literally scares me.

Me too. Maybe someone else will have had some experience with it. I couldn't find any reviews on the internet. I could always try it with my current car (its on lease for about another 6-8 months).

It is not the random orbital you need to be worried about, it is what makes contact with the paint that you need to be careful with. So personally I would trust a cotton bonnet. If it has velcro (hook'n'loop) pad, you should be able to attach a proper foam buffing pad. To remove product I've never liked using machines, as they get clogged too quickly and really a microfibre clotch works best and allows less surface pressure.

Not quite. Apply wax and polish using a foam pad (eg. Meguiars foam pad)attached to the random orbital. And then remove by hand. Using a cotton bonnet is likely to do more harm than good.

That's what I was thinking. Also, I just noticed that the device is an orbital, not a random orbital, so I am wondering how much difference there is there. From what I read, I think I may want to go with a random orbital.

Orbitals can easily cause swirls with harsher cutting compounds. Bit harder to do with random orbitals.
