G90 M5 vs F90 M5: The Ultimate Side-by-Side Battle!

What’s up, Bimmerpost fam?

The wait is over…I finally got the highly anticipated G90 M5 side by side with the legendary F90 M5, and it’s safe to say, BMW has officially entered a new era. But does the G90 live up to the hype? Or does the F90 still hold the crown for the ultimate super sedan? Let’s break it down:

Exterior Design: Bold vs. Timeless
The G90 is a STATEMENT. From its massive illuminated grille to its sharp, angular design, this thing screams futuristic aggression. Love it or hate it, it’s impossible to ignore. It looks larger, wider, and more commanding than the F90.

The F90, on the other hand, is all about that classic M5 balance. Sleek, muscular, and subtle enough to fly under the radar until it’s time to show what it’s made of. It’s the definition of timeless.

Verdict: If you’re into bold, go G90. If you prefer understated aggression, the F90 still wins.

Performance: Hybrid Power vs. Pure V8 Fury

While I didn’t take the G90 for an extended drive, the hybrid setup is clearly a game-changer. It combines BMW’s legendary S68 twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor, delivering jaw-dropping performance numbers (718 hp and 738 lb-ft). From the brief moments I had with it, the instant torque from the hybrid system feels otherworldly.

The F90’s 4.4L twin-turbo V8 is no slouch either. Sure, it doesn’t have hybrid assistance, but it delivers power in a way that’s raw, visceral, and unapologetically loud. The F90 Competition or CS feels like a car that was built to thrill the purist in all of us.

Verdict: G90 brings the future, but the F90 still offers that unmatched old-school M5 character.

Interior: Next-Gen Luxury vs. Driver-Focused Simplicity

Step inside the G90, and it’s like entering the cockpit of a spaceship. Dual curved displays, ambient lighting everywhere, and top-notch materials make it feel ultra-modern. It’s luxury at its finest, but it’s also more tech-heavy and less driver-focused than previous M5s.

The F90, by comparison, feels a bit more traditional. Smaller screens, fewer distractions, and a layout that prioritizes the driver above all else. It may not be as flashy, but it still feels premium and, arguably, more engaging.

Verdict: G90 is for tech lovers, while F90 appeals to purists.

Final Thoughts: Evolution vs. Tradition

The G90 is undoubtedly a leap forward in tech and performance. It’s more powerful, and packed with innovation that points to where BMW is heading. It’s perfect for those who want the latest and greatest in super sedan engineering.

But the F90? It’s the last of a dying breed. Its raw, analog nature makes it a car that enthusiasts will cherish for years to come. It’s not just about numbers. It’s about feel, and that’s something the F90 delivers in spades.

So, Bimmer fam, what do you think? Are you all-in on the future with the G90, or does the F90 still hold a special place in your heart? Drop your thoughts below—I’m curious to see where everyone stands on this epic M5 battle!

Will come down to test drives and seat of the pants feel for me for sure, but my feelings about the F90 are pretty strong:

Never mind the G90 design language. The opposite of timeless. This one won’t age well imho.

But who knows, we’ll see what the future brings!

Just read your review and couldn’t have said it better myself. The F90 excels in just about every category.

I plan on keeping mine for a very long time. If I pick up a G90 it would be in addition to it not replace the F90. As you said only time will tell.
