Golf Tea Mod sort of?
Well I did the Golf tea mod today, but with a difference I used the IKEA bag sealing clip... seems to work well and very easy to remove! and also very CHEAP $5 pack of 30.....

Yes I have used one of these clippers on one of my cars which had an exhaust bypass valve on the r.h exhaust (twin exhaust system) before. It works well to start, but the heat generated from exhaust seems to affect the clipper, thereby weakening its grip. From memory it hardened up and bowed. I eventually got an aftermarket exhaust.

I tried the mod for 1 day! just kinked the tube midway and put a zip tie on it. Seemed to drone too much at cruising speed for my liking, it did sound better at idle though. Just clipped the zip tie off with some side cutters, took 10 seconds and tubing was left perfect.

Make sure you're doing the correct tube!! You know if the mod is working because when you look up the passenger side pipe the flap will stay open at idle. I shoved a stick up there and pushed it shut and does sounds quieter with the flap closed. (as per stock) but it was the droning sound at 2000rpm the did my head in.

Well I checked up my exhaust pipe and I can see the flap is open.. it looks semi open. Here is a photograph
Seems I've done the mod correctly.. I've had the car like this for a day now and we drove down south, 110km/hr no drone what so ever.. |
