Master Tech Suggests Techron Additive

Tha Master Tech at my dealer returned from a BMW NA seminar where he said a BMW NA engineer stated he thought direct injection engines would benefit from Chevron Techron (or BMWs version of it) added to the fuel tank every 5000 miles. I'm doing it and just thought I'd pass this along.

hmm interesting. i wonder if using chevron gas exclusively has the same benefits since AFAIK all grades of chevron gas contain techron(?).

No the concentration in chevron gas is not high enough. Best to go with a bottle of Techron ...it is a very good fuel system cleaner.

i've seen articles that say using chevron all the time has the same effect and using fuel injector cleaner.

if you do buy some techron, remember to pour in the techron BEFORE filling up.

How often should this be done, if at all?

The BMW NA engineer was saying every 5000 miles, which coincides with my planned oil changes.

This makes more sense since Techron's a detergent. I don't see the point of using the additive if the stuff at the pump is designed to prevent build up in the first place, assuming of course that Chevron's all one uses.

Chevron stations and your BMW dealer carry it as well. Follow the directions on the container.
