What's the best launch technique?
There has been a lot of discussion of 0-60 times for the 135, but how are drivers getting them?
I'm curious: what rpm's at launch, pop or slip the clutch, etc. I haven't had to embarrass a Shelby Mustang yet, but you never know when the need will arise. I could find out through trial-and-error, I suppose, but in my case that usually involves so much error....

In the May issue of Road & Track they wre getting 4.8 second 0-60. Their technique was traction control off, 4000 RPM and release clutch smoothly. There should be just a little tire slip. I don't have mine for 2 more weeks, so I can't confrim how this works - and then there's that break in thing.

4,000 seems like a lot of rpms, given how much torque this engine has. Won't it just sit there & smoke the tires? Especially with only the e-diff functioning?
Plus, in another thread, I ran across this quote from a 135 owner with an automatic: "Launch at 1800rpms on a dry sunny day on decent ground and I don't see any reason a 4.7-4.8 0-60 is not possible." Somebody's got it wrong. I'm wondering if anyone who doesn't work for a magazine has tried an actual, real-world 0-60 run, and how they did it....

I must have missed something, where are you reading 4000 rpms? The thread I posted mentioned around 2000 rpms...
EDIT: Nevermind, I found it in this thread. Man I'm easy to confuse today. That was for an MT but you are right, even for that 4000 would make a wicked burn spot. |

That was me who said that! I should have added in there that I did that in an auto transmission. For me I found that was a sweet spot and any higher RPM the back wheels would start to spin or I would get too much wheel spin off the line. 4000 RPM launch for the auto would be great for a smoke show! Maybe on the manual you might pull it off if you let off slowly. Not sure haven't driven this car with a MT. |

This is also the way to burn out your clutch, throwout bearings, etc. quicker. Letting out the clutch slow enough to not peel out at that RPM tends to put a lot of wear and tear on your system...
