Exclamation Fuel?

I've done about 65kms so far... And my average economy is.. wait for it.... 17.2!!! What the hell!?@ I'm no lead foot. Does this bed in after a while? I've used a 1/4 of a tank already

My 1er is really thirsty or my foot is really heavy!

Any other owners comment? I've just done stop/start driving so far, never really getting outta 4th.

Cheers
K

Don't complain. I have two cars that I can't get the average down below 25litres/100km and I am talking about pretty normal day to day driving with the occasional squirt.

The demo I drove had over 200kms and had an average of 12.4l/00kms

Perhaps, it will settle down soon...

Your avg will improve markedly over next couple hundred of kays. You've only done 69km. The first 5-10 litres of the tank were probably done idling, driving on and off transport etc. Try resetting it and start again.

My first tank managed 12 with a 200k trip to golf course and back.

Currently running about 14.5, mainly stop start around inner Melbourne.

Give it a gentle squirt once and a while, and it quickly goes up.

Notice about 7-9 (instantaneous) doing 100 in 6th on freeway.

Kris,

Mate, dont stress too much about it...

it settles down after a while, its happens when BMW re sets the engine and the chip in a car or in your instance a new car, or sometimes after a system upgrade etc. (like it happened to me on my 120i, after i picked it up from a service, i freaked out to find out that my car was giving me 24l/100kms...)

I managed to call up BMW and yell abuse that you have just taken $500 for a service and didnt even tune my car, infact screwd it over... they explained that it will so down soon, they flushed the system or something he was blabing...

but all good now, my 120i is giving me 10.1.... so i am not complaining....

but yeah it will go down soon...

Settle down guys:eyebulge:, my first tank went in 300km, now I am just over 1000km I did a test run to compare fuel usage. The drive to my sons school and back to my work is about 36km (6-7 lights and medium traffic). My Golf TDi averages about 6 L/100km for this round trip and the 135 did it at 8.2 L/100km so if you drive carefully and keep the revs below 2500 then the car is quite economical. I expect the fuel usage will drop even more as the engine loosens up. With cruise control on the highway should get into the 6's.

How's traction in the back at 38? Have you got 18s?
I think i'll probably run mine at about 36, same as the mini...

Hey guys, all this talk about fuel prompts me to ask...what is the consensus on the best fuel out there? I've heard BP, but I normally fuel it up with Shell because of the 4c off. Shell also has the 100 octane fuel, but that is mixed with ethanol so I never use it...

I use BP, cars have always run better with it for me. Less benzine too, better for the environment and as you said, ethanol less.

BP Ultimate is all I ever use..

I noticed that Shell fuel is giving my C63 a black exhaust too...but dealer tells me that it is normal for these cars in the initial few tanks.

Go with BP mate... its a better fuel. Report back your findings! I'm yet to hear your exhaust, we want a video clip

I have always used BP Ultimate 98 Octane on my bmer's.(last car 05 330Ci).Found it cleaner with better economoy and performance..
Tried the Shell 100 with ethanol..found the car was more responsive down low...JUST TOO EXPENSIVE..

I find Mobil 8000, and Shell V Power better than Caltex Vortex 98. Haven't tried BP Ultimate in a long time - they charge more. Maybe I should give it a go again.
