Questions about clear bra

1. Does it fade or discolor over time?

2. Do you wash/seal/wax your car the same with it on as you would w/p it on?

3. Is it really noticeable so much that its annoying to the owner?

4. And when you do wash your/seal/wax your car with it on, does any sediment, wether it be dirt or product, get stuck in between the edge of the bra and the car?

If people could help me with these it'd be great for me to finally justify getting it when I get my car.

RobLS... Search the forum for some of my pics, I have the clear bra on the car. The clear bra will not fade over time if its properly maintained. You wash/wax seal just as you would normally do. I use Zaino products and just use the Zaino on the clear bra. If you use wax, you will have to use a q-tip and remove excess from the edge of the clear bra.

It is not annoying, I can now pass an 18 wheeler on the freeway and have the confidence I'm protected. Also, with all the bug hits up front, I don't have to worry about my paint being stained.

I have "OCD" when it comes to my car and I love the clear bra, I think I would go crazy without it on the car, its money well invested.

Do IT!!!!!!!!!!

Said you just use Zaino on the clear bra, so you use separate products for the bra and the car?

What about car wash places? Would that damage the clear bra?

No, you should have no issues at the car wash places. However, I highly recommend washing your car yourself, all those car wash places are inducing swirls in your paint. Its all personal choice.

Amen. It's not like we are buying a Suburban here. The 1 has a small footprint to wash. Do it yourself

Thank you John, you've pretty much answered everything for me, I've never used Zaino before, it seals the car? I probably should just check it out online. Anyhow, thanks.

I'm not sold on the concept yet.
  • you can see the edge especially when dirty
  • I think it would peel in the sharp corners over time
  • I noticed a slight discoloration difference from the bra and naked hood. This was on a brand new white 335i
  • its an expensive sticker set
  • how does this protect from rock chips? If you get a dent from a rock, well its dented
Where I can see it's usefulness:
  • door handles and the area behind the door handles to protect from scuffs
my 2 cents.

How much does it cost to get a clear bra professionally installed? How much does it cost to repaint the hood and bumper?

repainting the hood and bumper, for me, would come after years of use.

I was quoted by Steve Perez in Houston, $295 for just front bumpers and $495 on bumper, hood and mirrors. I am just going to get the bumpers done. I don't like the line across the hood.

My father in law and I have had them on a few cars between us.
a) They do work
b) You can see them
But I am again seriously considering them for the 128i, it's a small sacrifice compared to the cost of getting a real nice paint job to clean up all the chips later on.

However, the paint on my leased E90 has withstood the road far better than my wife's Mitsi Outlander, both without bras, the mitsi has huge chips where the paint has flaked off, and marks far worse than the BMW.

Im getting the front of the car done this week using 3M's product on a AW 135. Im considering going the whole bonnet as im not too happy with having a line

Im told the film will NOT yellow and with proper maintenance the car paint wont fade either underneath it.

Will the film peel off eventually? Especially around the corners.

Ok. That can be both good and bad. Just a lot of factors to weigh in.

Why is it bad? it comes off like window tint with the right products/tools/know how

The only bad thing I can think of is if it discolors paint underneath..
