135i Alarm System--worth it?

Hello and good evening!

Looking for a little advise; is the BMW factory alarm system worth the $500 bucks from the dealer (installed)? I feel like i need something other than 'locking the doors' to protect my car on visits to the mall.

You know it took me a week to realize I had to twist that stupid red knob below the review mirror to keep me from being blinded by cars behind me at night! Maybe it was the stupid driver and just a red knob...huh...

Depends. Do you live in a big city with a lot of crime? If so then the alarm may help prevent smash and grab robberies of your stuff inside the car. However the ignition system uses a high grade encryption to prevent ignition without the key, so the only way the car itself is going to get stolen is if it's loaded onto a flatbed truck.

Defiantly depends on where you live. Where I live you can go to the Mall and find unlocked cars in the parking lot. I bet in big cities you would not find many unlocked cars in the Mall parking lot.

It might be worth it depending on how integrated it is into the car. The last car I owned, I had both alarms because they couldn't disconnect the factory one without causing problems. Or at least that's what they told me.

u have time to think about it. 1 series alarm retrofits and progman version 29.2 don't like each other. bmw is telling dealers to be wary of selling alarms at this time.

I'm just happy not to have a car that blows its horn every time I get in or out of it. Am I the only one that finds this annoying?
