13.568 1/4 Mile, Lebanon Valley NY Dragway

Hi guys I took my 135i up to Lebanon Valley tonight to go to the street car test and tune night. My car is 3 days old with 600 miles on it. It is a black Steptronic trans. All of my runs I used the paddle shifters, I have only been drag racing on other time in my old corvette so I am still new to it. My reaction times were very poor but I think the car did well for not being broken in all the way yet. I wanted to get a baseline to see what kind of improvement I get from the Dinan flash. My first run was a 13.888 with a .556 reaction time. My next run was a 13.607 with a .529 reaction time, and my last run was a 13.568 with a .505 reaction time. I think with some more practice I could hit a 13.2 - 13.3, It was a lot of fun I cannot wait to do it again. If someone could give me there email address I will send them pictures of my time slips so we can dissect them better. I do not know how to post pics. Thanks

What where your 60ft times? MPH? Also, is the track above sea level-if so, what altitude? Good times for a "fresh" car. I'll be hitting the strip up with mine when she gets here. Will have video as well. I can't wait.

Did they happen to have a scale there? How much gas did you have? Did you drop the pressure in the rears at all? Thanks.

Oh, forgot to ask if you had any kills? :-)

If you weren't using a pro-tree and you were getting .5 reaction times - you aren't doing that badly. A .505 is nothing to sneeze at seeing as that 6 thousandths of a second quicker woulda triggered a red light. ; -)

BTW for those that want to play, here's a pretty good sportsman tree simulator online: http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/nhraxtreesp.html

Great times for a 3 day old car. Did you take it to redline of shift before 5k?

Not bad .. get those 60ft times down and you will see it at the big end !! .. not bad for the MPH either ... I would say w/ Air and Exhaust mods we should be able to hit 107mph or so in good air !

LVD also has been known for its poor track prep on wednes night test and tunes. So with magazines pulling 13.3s I would say your numbers are nothing to knock on.

Where are you planning on getting the Dinan flash done? I'm also in the Albany area looking at possible modifcations and where to get them done, though I don't exactly have the car at the moment . Send me a PM or something if your going to head back up there for a sat or wednes night run, I'll need to head up and see the car run.

I always hear about poor track preps...what does that mean exactly?

The track gets slick as the night goes on. They have a spray that softens all the rubber buildup, and usually use some kind of large wire brush mounted on a tractor to roughen it up. A well prepped track will knock a couple of tenths off your 60' times, which adds up at the end of the run.

Sometime, especially on test and tune nights, the guys running the track get lazy and don't bother with it.

this is very encouraging with a track up in the mountains. most mags get mph in the 104-106 range, and with better 60foot times (launch technique) I'm sure you could hit 13.3 or less ET. I don't think reaction times matter for your ET, i could be wrong.

They had a tree there but the night was so rushed that as soon as I got staged the tree went off. I think I could deffenetly run a 13.3 if I could have taken my time staging and a little more practice. I shifted the car at 6000rpm and then 6400-6500 on the last run so the later shifting was deffinetly an improvement. And the track was a mess there was rubber and water everywhere, but I tried to drive up around it and not straight through it to stage.

There is also a compound that can be put down that I can't remember the name of for the life of me right now that greatly aids in hooking up that LVD usually only puts down on the more serious open saturdays

i don't know what the optimal shift points for steptronic are, but for 6mt (different gear ratios), optimal shift points are redline for 1st, redline for 2nd and 6700 for third gear.

I googled and found this old thread on my first time 3 days after picking up my car. Two weeks ago I went to Lebanon and ran a 12.665 on the same run flats, with the DINAN tune and AFE intake. I just shows what a few mods can do to our cars.
