USB/ IPod connector

Hi there,

I am in the process of ordering the 135i and just want to double check with you guys because I don't trust 100% what they say at the dealers. (Always better to double check

So is the USB Interface the actual Ipod connector so I will be able to search and browse my IPod from the Idirve?
This option is listed at 205£ and I am not sure if it is just to be able to use the pendrive to listen to the music.
Can please someone who has ordered this option tell me if it is actually the one required to connect ipod to the idrive system with the screen and seering wheel buttons?

Also the other option of exterior mirror package for 165£ and rear view and exterior mirror automatically dimming for 215£.
Does the packeg include the autmaticly diming mode? or I have to order both options separately. Basically what is the mirror package?

Thank you
Pav

USB interface is the one you need for i-pod connectivity but you'll also have to purchase a lead from them which costs about £20ish, this will power you i-pod while you listen.

I'd contact the dealer and ask the exact price of the cable though

I think the mirror package gives you folding and auto dimming exterior mirrors, the rear view mirror comes as auto dimming std.

Hope this helps

Not sure about the UK, but here the cable is included in the price. You can browse and all of that from iDrive.

I just use the cable that came with the Ipod, it powers it in the BM's USB port and I can read all my tunes no problem, even though the dealer said it wouldn't work!!

I did buy the Ipod in Thailand, but I think they are all standard leads.

It's in usb mass storage mode, which means you won't be able to play any DRM tracks...

thank you all for the replies.
But could anybody confirm which option with the mirrors I should choose if I want them both folding and dimming?

As the mirror package is less expensive than just the auto dim it doesn't make sense to pay more for just the dim and not getting the folding mirrors...

Thanks a lot

Oh how long did you wait on average for the new 135? They told me 4 months because I'm getting the LHD Tax free, but from my past experience it takes around 3 months to get the new beemer.

I just want to add a note. Sometimes a person at the dealership throws things in. I know in USA it is included. MY SA/CA here in Canada is giving it to me at no additional cost. I would say, if he/she has not offered it, ask for it before hand.

Order the USB, junk the iPod and just use a tumbdrive. They are so cheap now. It works the same way your iPod normally would work. I just simply drag/drop my songs from my HDD to the tumbdrive. Plays great and you don't have your iPod tied up nor do you have to unplug it everytime you need it otherwise.

Apple I-Pod Connection

When I had a test drive in 1 Coupe fitted with the USB I simply used my standard Apple I-Pod USB lead - no other wire needed.

That turns the ipod into a hard drive/flash drive, you can't play drm tracks or use your playlists

Dumped them all onto a Corsair 16Gb memory stick. Took a while for it to recognize the device. All working fine, so taking out the IPOD as I can use this elsewhere. BMW even give enough clearance for a memory stick directly in the USB socket with no lead needed and the middle arm rest fully down. (well designed)

my samsung ypt9 works and sandisk titanium 8gb works too.

not had any issues with text issues.

I've also had to buy a cable at £39 - USB with std apple lead works fine as a mass storage device. but if you want full ipod playlists etc buy the lead.. it combines USB and 3.5mm jack for some reason.

I too had to buy the cable and it seems I paid the most - £40!!

Robbing tw4ts!

Oh well, it's pretty good, but one thing drives me insane - you can only scroll through the Albums from A-Z, not Z-A.. a real PIA if like me you have 200+ albums

cost me £40 as well m8.... i was well p*ssed after paying massive wonga for the car that i still had to buy a lead as well.

and your right, scrolling as per the phonebook with a-z would be great, but at least we should be able to go backwards..

listening to the Zutons without crashing for example is almost an impossibility!!

When mine first arrived I used my old 4Gb iPod NANO with the standard charging cable from Apple, the BMW cable was in with the car documentation - but I didn't notice that!

Since that I bought a 16Gb USB stick and use that instead. It's a bit slower than the iPod when it first reads all the track information, but after that is perfect.
