I was told BMW will offer their own software upgrade.. only 380ft-lb
I stopped by the dealer today and one of the sales guys told me he heard BMW will offer their own software upgrade for the 135i. He also said it will only have around 380ft-lb, vs. Dinan's 421 ft-lb. Of course, I have no way of verifying the info. It does make sense that BMW would want to limit the torque to take it easy on the drivetrain.
If true, how many of you would give up 40 ft-lb to avoid the possible "BMW doesn't like Dinan" warranty hassle?

I am looking for more power and a BMW warranty is certainly the most ideal. You can sign me up if the price comes in anywhere below Dinan. Frankly, I'm excited about it!

most likely that number is underrated, but the question is by how much?:iono:

I agree. BMW always seems to advertise lower numbers than actual. On the other hand.. Dinan seems to stretch their numbers as far as possible.

BMW tune will most definitely be the most expensive with the least amount of power, I would be surprised if it gave more than 30hp and 30tq.

Once upon a time, many years ago, a major computer manufacturer decided to bring out a second line of computers. It was their entry-level line. But rather than build a brand new system, they simply installed an executive program override that stole CPU cycles, effectively sapping 50% or so of the processor's power. When Mr. Customer wanted to upgrade to the top-of-line computer, they would send the tech out to insert the 'golden key' (which removed the 'override').
This reminds me of that. ; -) |

I think this would be a great option for those people who are concerned about BMW especially when my SR told me that BMW canada has sent out a notice to all dealerships in my area saying that they do not recommend Dinan and will not cover this software upgrade under their warranty. In essence Dinan will have to cover anything that goes wrong that BMW feels was not due to their OEM configs which can be anything. This interns puts Dinan responsible and of course when this comes to reality Dinan might push the ball back to BMW and vice versa.. I wouldnt be looking forward to that situation so this is a great alternative if the price is right..

It'll be interesting to see if this really happens. Obviously with a warranty behind it that would be great but I wonder how much it'll set you back.

I wouldn't pay the $2k Dinan gets for less power; however, it would still be worth $1400-$1600 of my $$.

Well, it's already overrated...more like 320hp at the crank at least, so going to 380 is only 60ft lb difference....warranty is great and all but at what price.

i'd love to believe this, but salesmen tend to spout a lot of crap that never comes true.
i remember shopping for a lexus is300 when they first came out. the salesmen were absolutely convinced that lexus was going to offer TRD upgrades, including a supercharger, for that car. they never materialized, and i am glad i didn't bite on their bullshit. |

I would do it in a second if I could get BMW factory warranty and it was less then the Dinan flash. Maybe $1200 bucks or so? Definitely.

On the day of sale, the financial officer at my dealership told me a 135i chip option would be available, under warranty, for $1,700.
Ive been grinning so much as it is, I haven't ever looked into the details. Sorry.

I can't wait until all this speculation works itself out. It would be pretty dang cool if BMW does this!!!

I have also heard this info, and knowing BMW, the price will be higher than most I'm almost positive.
