Arai Helmet question!

I was looking into getting an Arai full face pretty soon.

But was confused as to why the GP-5 is so much more expensive compared to its other models the GP-5k and GP-5W.

As far as I know the GP-5k has less ventilation and is slightly heavier than the GP-5.

GP-5W has about the same amount of ventilation as GP-5 and even has a larger eyeport. It uses different shields than GP-5 because of the larger eyeport. This is about $800. GP-5 is about $1000.

What the hell?

Also...was wondering if SA2005 helmets could be used in Karting applications?
I know karting has its own standards Snell K-05..and Karting helmets can't be used for auto racing.

Look at the Snell ratings - that could be part of the difference.

I believe their impact rating is all the same. They use the same material for all 3 helmets. Only difference is that GP-5K uses slightly cheaper material, so its heavier, but they say the impact rating is the same.

I also belive that the SA has to have a fire rating whereas the M (Motorcycle) does not. That adds to the cost of an SA helmet. If you're autocrossing, check to see if they'll accept an M rated helmet.

Some of you racing types chime in please.

You are correct, the GP-5 is both lighter and has better ventilation then the GP-5K. I've had the GP-5K and now i have a GP5 and I much prefer the GP5 although the difference is not huge. I'm using it for formula car racing (Skip Barber) and DE's
