Rotor wear?

Can anyone tell me if the front rotors on BMW's are subject to premature wear?
I know they are included in the no charge maintenance program but would you ever need to be replaced that early?
I ask because in Canada we have to pay additional $ if we want to cover "wear" items under the scheduled maintenance.
I have not even had to replace my pads on my S2K after 3 years let alone the rotors.
