Sports Package Tires
How long do you guys estimate/know the Performance tires will last on the 128i (or 135i if there really is no difference)? How does that compare to All-Seasons?

You will be very lucky to get 30k miles. Probably 15-20k if you drive aggressive. Also you can't rotate. $1,200 for a set @ Tirerack WITHOUT shipping, mounting, balancing.

I should just replace them with All-Seasons when the time comes eh? Since I'm not going to be tracking the car.

The 135i comes standard with the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A RFT regardless if you get the Sport Package or not.

Just run them until they wear out. You paid for them with the purchase of the car. When they are shot, replace them with non-RFT's and buy a M-Mobility kit.

I fear that my rears aren't going to last very long.
I've found is too much fun to run with the DTC off.

Well thats up to you. It will handle much better with summer tires. And if you get snow in the winter, dedicated snow tires are much better than all-seasons. I personally will put summer tires on the OEM 18" 264's when the run-flats wear out, and get a set of 17" wheels with Dunlop 3D snows for winter. I need to feel how good/bad the RE050A run-flats ride before deciding what type of summer tire I will get after the factory ones wear out.

The OEM run-flats are great summer tires, they just ride firmer from the inserts. I might get the exact same tires when they wear out. I need to feel what the ride is like. I prefer a firm ride over a soft ride. If I wanted a soft ride with crappy handling I would get a Lexus.

Jeff, have you owned a set of RunFlats before? Just wondering.
The Ride is bad.... harsh... (RunFlats on 18" is wayy worst then my 19"s with UHPs Comfort wise), and isn't a 'good' summer tire. Maybe an average All season at best. RunFlats... Yuck! I am actually getting my set of BBS w/ Good Year F1s or SSWs w/ General UHPs installed at the dealer when i pick up the car, and instead of the RunFlats, they'll give me a set of Winters at no extra charge. |

Since the RFT come standard, you might as well just use them and get your money's worth before you replace them with some non-RFT tires.

I'm not a fan of run-flats at all. My friend who changed from run-flats to lighter regular tires improved it MPG noticeably. Also the overall ride is unnecessarily rough. (Don't get me wrong a tight suspension is one thing, but run-flats... ) |

All season tires: jack of all trades, master of none. What's funny is that there's no such thing as an all-season tire here in Germany! It's either summer or winter (as it should be).

I've read in another 1addicts thread that using the Continental kit to repair a tire mounted on a wheel with the tire pressure monitors found on the 1 will ruin the TPM on that wheel. Assuming that's true, any idea if that's also an issue with this M-Mobility kit? |

As far as run-flats, I will probably get non-run-flats after the OEM tires wear out. I just need to figure out what to do about a flat. Some say they will carry a small compressor and a tire plug kit. I guess this would be fine once I learn how to do this type of fix on the side of a highway??? I can't see getting a flat with non-run-flat tires on the side of an interstate highway in the rain, then trying to find a screw in the tire, removing it, then pluging it as cars ZOOM by at 85 mph. There has to be another way to deal with the BMW run-flat crap. I JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO???:iono::iono::iono: |

First let me start by saying this isn't the first BMW I have owned with 18" wheels & tires, but it is the first car I have owned with RFT's.
I really can't say these tires are any better or worse than my 18" Michelin Pilot Sports I had on my e46 330ci. They may be slightly rougher, but we are talking a different car and suspension. :iono: As far as flats...my M roadster didn't have a spare either, we got the M mobility kit. Basically it was a compressor that ejected a material into the tire along with air so you could drive.
