Cool I-Drive Buttons
I knew that the idrive system had the programmable buttons, but the thing I find really cool is you do not need to remember which button is programed for what. You just brush your finger on the button and it shows you on the idrive screen. This is very helpful and before I noticed I kept pushing the wrong button for the function I wanted. I am liking idrive quite a bit and I am not sure why it has such a bad rep, it only took me 5 min to get the basic functions down.

The 1 series (BMW system) is great. Not overly complex, but it does what it needs to. My wife's Lexus Navi is terrible. You have to go through way tooo many steps to get going. Of course not being able to access the Navi while the car is moving is the worst part!

I had an Acura TSX with nav prior to getting my 135. Nothing... I mean nothing compares to the Acura navigation system. Large touch screen and no learning curve. One outstanding feature is when the headlights are on in the Acura... the screen goes to inverse video so it is not too bright.
BMW blew it here. White letters with a grey background is not the easiest to see in the daytime. The map is fine... light background.. in the daytime. Just the reverse happens at night. The map is too bright... but all the other screens are easy to see. The map screen should go to black background with white lettering... colored roads etc. as the Acura does. Therefore no bright glare at night. I know I'll hear "just adjust the screen intensity." Well you'll be adjusting it at night and then readjusting it again for daylight driving. There's only one brightness adjustment setting... but not one for day and one for night. Not well thought out. |

The buttons are a fairly new feature, so most iDrive users will never have seen them. However, the reason it gets a bad rep is because most people never read the manual!
