Tire Pressure tooo high - Check it

I decided to check my tire pressure since dealers sometimes forgot to check this when they deliver a car.

I was sitting at 38-39 psi all around.

I set the pressure to 36psi all around (stock), and you wouldn't believe the ride difference 2+psi makes on run flats. It's a much smother ride.

Yikes!

The only reason I didn't the first day is my dealership always checks them at delivery time.

I learned my lesson about this when I bought the GTO. The spec on them is 38/40 but for some reason they jack them up to around 50PIS for shipping. A lot of the cars were sitting on the dealer lots like that, including mine. A few PSI really makes a difference on modern low profile tires.

What is the stock psi supposed to be at for the 1er's 18's? I've usually heard that 32-33 psi is the normal.

Mine was a couple pounds high also, but I'm running 37 front, 36 rear now.

phaze, 32-33 is too low for low-aspect ratio 18s. Too easy to damage tires or wheels.

Just put new Toko S-rides on my Mini at Discount Tire. They set the pressure at 44 all around.

I adjusted mine this past weekend. I did 32psi up front and 36 in back. Was trying to dial out a bit of understeer.

You want higher pressures up front and lower pressures in the rear to reduce understeer:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=58

Higher pressures = more grip (within nominal ranges, e.g. <45psi)

Is anyone going to switch to Nitrogen in their tires? I want too, but I need to find some in the Chicago area.

I am going to switch to helium. This will make the car lighter by about 200 lbs.
