M5 comp vs c8 corvette
Hello. I'm posting for anyone who owns a m5, what the ownership has been like for them? I've always loved bmw, and choosing between an m5 or c8 corvette.
Having a hard time deciding which to go with, I'm early 20s no kids want something nice to drive around. The main selling point on the c8 for me is the convertible, mid engine platform, would love to hear some feedback about owning an m5, Also is the competition upgrade worth it over the base? |

M5 is an awesome car with performance > C8 and C8Z.
I also have C6 cert but honestly if I could only have one it would M5 all day everyday. M5 vs M5C only differences are comp is 7mm lower and has 17 more HP so they say. It also has black accents. Fine the lowest mileage and newest M5 you can afford. I had many cars Audis, AMG, Mustang, Corvettes and the M5 is beyond ridiculous in terms of comfort, performance and speed. Keep in mind BMW even base and comps are unrated from BMW… the real HP is more like 700 at the fly wheel. |

Considering you are on an M5 forum I would say the chances of you finding owners is fairly high
Two completely different cars, one is a 2 door sports car and the other is a 4 door luxury super sedan. What is it you want? Do you want to be noticed? C8 will probably get more looks. Do you want to have a more practical DD while still being able to embarrass majority of cars on the road. M5 does this. What are you currently driving? |

First of all if you’re that young make sure your financial situation calls for it, we’re about to get into some hairy times.
I did a Vette then 2 M5s after. You’re young so I would recommend the C8 it’ll be wow looking and you’ll get some attention. I love my m5, my 2 seater tastes are too rich for me but an m5 is the perfect sedan for my needs. Great power, tech, practicality, responsiveness, and one of the most storied nameplates you can buy for under $100k used. |

I would recommend the Corvette based on your age and plans to move on to a Lambo in a year. I imagine you can get a new Corvette for 80-100K. I have a F90, and a love it. However, I would not purchase a used car at this price point.

The M5 is a tremendous car. Amazing, actually. But there are lot more fun cars even though they are slower. I personally am not sure I would pick a 'vette over an M5. But a manual transmission, rear or mid-engined, RWD sportscar? Yeah, sign me up. Trouble is, those fun cars are not great "only cars" or daily drivers. |

I have a '21 M5 and had a '20 C8 vert that I sold a couple months ago. The M5 is better overall but isn't a vert and won't get any attention like the C8 does.
I am older and married so the attention factor isn't as much for me as it would be if I was in my 20s and single. |

Bottom line: two very different driving experiences, but you're smart to borrow the C8 for a few days and see if you really want one. I had a similar dilemma about 20 years ago (wayyy back in my early 30s): buy a 2004 Z06 or 2003 M5. I went with the Z06 and loved it, and yes, got a lot of attention and it was fast, however, if I had to do it all over again, I'd have bought that M5. For one thing, the E39 is worth a ton now if in good shape and it's just a more refined car. Like others have said, you're on a F90 forum so of course there's bias, but also based on our years of experience, owning different sports cars. Since you're in a different stage of life, you may want the more raw "sport" experience vs. sport/luxury and that's fine. I think most of us went through that, too. However, what I really like about our cars is it's a wolf in sheep's clothing...not seeking attention, but I can hang with almost any car if I want/need to. I have zero regrets about my F90 and yes, they are underrated when it comes to true hp output. Even just stock, it is plenty fast! Good luck with the decision.

Another point about other cars being "more fun". I have been recently considering getting something more raw and exciting.
Over the past few days I have been driving the wifes TRX around. In many aspects that truck is like an old school muscle car, Heavy, handles like crap, loud, but oh man is it fun! Whenever we go out I always drive, so regularly driving it isn't anything new, but between a few trips I needed to use it for and picking some stuff up after work I ended up putting around 6 hours of driving in 2 days. Sliding back into the M5 for the morning commute today was a breath of fresh air. I love the TRX but for overall comfort and DD missile the M5 is really hard to beat. |

Dramatically different cars but I understand the comparison. I own a 2020 comp and have raced a C8 Z51 for a couple of weekends.
The C8 is a tiny car, but extremely well made and appointed. I have noticed that the DCT gives me a real nasty smell of clutch after running it hard. I am a little concerned for the longevity of that gearbox although I understand GM is actively working on an update. Some people complain that the steering is numb but the chassis is very communicative. It changes direction like a hummingbird once you learn how to drive it. The M5C is a large luxury sedan that is mind-bendingly fast. I've owned mine for 4 months and I'm still astounded by how fast it is. Straight line the C8 will hang with the M5C for a few hundred feet but start losing ground. By the quarter stock for stock the C8 will be a couple carlengths behind and continue to lose ground. While it doesn't handle like the C8, the M5C is extremely capable, able to go far beyond what most people expect. The AWD system feels like magic, and it drives like a video game with cheats enabled. Both are good ways of going fast. Most people won't see you coming in the BMW unless they know what they're looking at. Corvettes inevitably attract attention. |

I had both for a couple years and would disagree, enough to get rid of the C8.
The C8 handles corners way better, has the best suspension around with the magnetic ride, looks a lot better, has lower insurance and comes in a vert but the M5 is better in every other way. |
