Favorite Detailing Gear (Wax/Clay)

Hi. My name is LarryN, and I'm a Griots snob.

I love their Speed Shine (as a clay lubricant, and as a in-between wash touchup), Car Wash, Machine Polishes, Plastic Polish, Best of Show Wax, etc.

What's your poison? (Zaino? Meguiars? Zymol? Turtle? )

Zaino here, but it's really the only "premium" brand I've ever used. Love that stuff!

Larryn,

I got hooked on their stuff when I bought my E30 and there was a catalog in the trunk. I looked through it and ordered a couple of things and was so impressed, I use nothing else. I love their clay bar. When you take the time, you end up with a finish that is like a mirror. Also the Car Wash is the best that I have found as well.

I have a couple of gallons of Speed Shine on hand, pretty much all the time. That stuff is amazing. The stuff is pricey, and you'd have to be a dolt to begin purchasing their overly priced tools, but the actual cleaning & detailing gear and microfibre towels are top notch.

I have been using the Menzerna products on all my cars the past fours years. Depending on the car. I have a black car that i use the the final polish to remove the swirls. I find it easy to use with the random porter machine.

This should be an interesting and informative category. Years ago, I dabbled in mobile detailing, discovered it is really hard freaking work, then dropped the idea. At that time. detail/car care products were not as advanced as now. I look forward to your guys various approaches/techniques to keeping your ride looking good. With any luck, the 135, like my old 2002, will never see rain as it is my weekend hot-rod.

I've been using a mix of Griots and Zymol for many years now. I still prefer the zymol waxes and glazes due to the lack of any chemicals and they smell great. I do have gallons of almost everything Griots sells though.

I've used just about every brand of detail products, including all of the above, and there is no question that Zaino brothers is by far the best. I would be added to the "i swear by it" list. Their products are just so darn durable. The show car wax is by far their best product. It is a pain in the ass to apply and you must do it correctly but if you can do it right there is not only no better shine but the durability and protection is just insane. I haven't waxed my car in 8 months (zaino recommends every 6 months) and even when my car hasn;t been washed in weeks, i swear to you it shines like it was waxed yesterday. It repells dirt like no other premium wax. My other favorite product is their leather cleaner and leather in a bottle treatment. The leather in a bottle is awesome. my car is almost 4 years old and people still get in and say, wow is this a new car?, it smells new. It makes the leather not only look but somehow smell like factory new. For me, its not even a contest, Zaino is just far and beyond the best. The only thing is they are a bit expensive, but you get what you pay for, and their applications can be extensive and very very time consuming. The wax comes with like a 15 step process, its not for the people want their car waxed in 30 minutes. its usually ann all day affair for me to detail my car with zaino but for anyone who likes their ride, its well worth the time and effort.

Do you know if this product might convey a sense of 'faux leather' via aroma?

I was hoping for a leatherette in a bottle product, personally. Much like Mr. Surname.

I use Zaino on my non-daily driver. Havent used anything else so I cant really compare but here is a pic. This is from years ago before they added the show car detailer. Ill need to take pics after the detailer next time I use it. The stuff works so well I almost dont have to towel dry the car, the water repels off.
