Logic 7

So is the upgraded stereo option the Logic 7? I see this on the page for the 135i ..

thoughts on this system?

Logic7 Audio System

It's a sound experience as remarkable as the BMW driving experience. Unlike traditional stereo systems, Logic7 routes two-channel (stereo) sound through a seven-channel playback matrix to create 360-degree Surround Sound. The anti-theft AM/FM stereo CD/MP3 player audio system includes 13 upgraded speakers (including 2 subwoofers), Digital Sound Processing (DSP), Radio Data System (RDS), Auto-Store and 3-channel FM diversity antenna, and it displays MP3 song title and artist.

It's fabulous in the 7er, less fabulous in the other models. Personally, I don't think its worth it but I am not the biggest Audiophile in the world. I've always thought that the standard BMW systems fit my needs just fine.

The standard audio is absolutely terrible, I'll be swapping it for a Becker rather than pay out for the optional stuff.

I have Logic 7 in my e90. It is certainly a lot nicer than the standard stereo in the e90/e92 (328i doesn't have Logic 7 standard).

Basically, it adds an EQ and a few spacial surround sound modes. I leave mine on Concert Hall, and brighten the highs and extreme lows a bit, and call it a day.

I'll be getting the upgraded audio option on my 1er too, as well as Sirius, HD Radio, and Ipod integration.

Swapping it for a Becker? Becker is part of Harman International (Harman/Kardon) who has been the audio OEM for BMW for quite some time now. That's why BMW headunits operate with the exact same soft key system as a Becker. The only thing you'll be swapping is the name on the stereo.

What's traditionally terrible about BMW stereo systems is NOT the headunit, instead its the teeney weeney tiny speakers. Got an E36?...well then the biggest speaker in the car is 4½ inches. I'd like somebody to explain to me why BMW has been asleep at the wheel for so long with their speaker choices...they should have partnered with Dynaudio like Volkswagen and Volvo have done. Fortunately we're past the insultingly small speakers now, but that's one thing that always pissed me off about BMW.

I think that it is a mistake; under Explore the 1 Coupe > Meet the Coupe > Gear > Sound System, that page also shows a "6 speaker" system as standard, then an optional "10 speaker playback matrix" system while at the same time a "10 speaker" system is shown in another page (Features and Specs) as standard.

The option price for that Logic7 also seems to be too low: $875 for the same specs of the 3 Series $1200 system (13 upgraded speakers). :iono:

FWIW, the 135i Features/Options page shows a 10-speaker system as standard. This seems the most logical as the 328i comes standard with a similar 10-speaker setup. If it is the same system, then I would recommend the Logic7 system as I remember the base 328i system being about as bad as you will find in a car. It's odd though that I love my standard MINI 6-speaker system yet BMW's 4 more speakers actually make it worse...

BMW has pretty much always had poor sounding audio systems, just like Honda. I hope the Hi-Fi option is at least tolerable, otherwise it'll be a wasted $875. Ideally I'd get to demo both at the dealership, however I'm not holding my breath. I'm predicting some aftermarked canned audio solutions to swap out at least the loudspeakers.

Listen to the X3 Hi-Fi system. Informed sources seem to believe it's the same one they're putting in the 1er.

That's what I also think, although the 1 Series Premium sound system option is $200 more than the X3's... :iono:

The new BMW USA 135i website calls it the Logic 7.

"It's a sound experience as remarkable as the BMW driving experience. That's the discusssion here... that maybe it is an error (one of many) of the 1 Series site.

I probably won't get it unless it was true Logic 7.

Ahh, now that I didn't know - this will be my first BMW you see... Well I'll not be spending the equivalent of $1400 for logic7 when I can take it into an audio specialist and get something better for less.

Do you happen to know if the ipod interface works the same on the OEM stereo as my Becker? i.e. the dials control the ipod's scrolling features and it displays on the screen rather than you having to select songs on the ipod and play through an 'aux' setting?
