Navigation screen size?
Does anyone know what the screen size will be on I-drive? Is it the same as the 3-series (which I think is 8.8")? Looks smaller in the pics I've seen. Will it have the same split-screen setup?

From the brochure tech sheet: small.
 Honestly, I don't know exactly, but I think it is 6.5". Same as the one you see in the X3 and Z4.

Thanks for the response. Another advantage for the 335, as small as it may be. I'm trying really hard to convince myself to go for the 135 given the 335 is only ~4k more, and only about $85 more in monthly payment. :iono:

The screen is definitely smaller than the 3-series. And from what I've found from European set-ups it will have the split-screen option as well. There are a couple pictures here: http://www.babybmw.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7286 |

Good pictures. Specifically, this one shows the 1ers implementation of the split screen:
On the 3 and 5 series (the wider version), you can have the larger left section display all other nav functions (entertainment/phone/vehicle settings/etc), while the smaller right section displays the map/arrow navigation display. I'm pretty sure that the split screen pictured above, does not do that. |

I wish we in the US got the empty bin on the dash, like we've seen in some non-nav cars. I've seen some awesome handheld GPS installs in the X3 dash bin that look better than the 2nd hump nav. Like this install:
This person routed the wires to the glove compartment and tapped into power from the flashlight charger. They also ran a wire to the auxiliary input on the stock head unit and is using the MP3 playback functionality on the Garmin StreetPilot. Supposedly, the retrofit was not difficult at all, including making the leatherette covered receptacle to look stock. |

Wow that does suck that we dont get the tray so we can do that...
But I would order the OEM navi anyway... I'm probably going to go with a 335i or 335xi sedan, not because the navi screen is too small lol, but I would just prefer more room... But tomorrow I'll want a 135i again...

Hi all... I stole this idea for my X3 and had one built with the same Garmin 7200:
