Question About Ordering 261

Having never ordered a BMW before, I don't know how this works. I would like to order my 1er with the 261 "M" wheels, but I haven't seen them listed on any of the option sheets.

Now, I realize I can always buy the wheels separately, but my hope is that I can pay an upcharge for them instead. If I have to take delivery with the stock 264s and buy the 261s separately, forget it. If I can get the 261s for a modest price increase over the 264s, then I will most certainly order them on the car.

Anybody have any insight about how this is likely to play out?

Thanks in advance.

They have to be in the ordering guide to get them in the US.

Same for the 19's that are euro only option for the E92.

BTW I really want the 261's also.

Probably not available in the US, even with a custom order

This raises an interesting possibility. Since I need a dedicated set of rims for autox tires anyway, maybe I'll just order these for daily duties and use the stock rims for my racing tires.

(BTW: please don't point out that the 261s are lighter than the 264s and thus more appropriate for racing. I truly do not care. I'm not fast enough that 3 lbs of unsprung weight makes any difference, and if I'm going to spend $$ on nice wheels, I want to be able to look at them every day.)

dame.. i was hoping to flame you on this..

But seriously.. that will be a lot of cash on a second set of rims.. how about a aftermarket option that costs less and weighs less to boot??

I think Fast Kiwi may be onto something - since the front and rear 264s will be different widths how about this idea? Sell the set of 264s to some schmuck that likes the 264s and wants to put 8.5" width rims all the way around (for wider front tires - say 235/35-18) and then use the four leftover 7.5" wide 264s for snows. You'd get rid of the 264s, have the 261s for daily use and a set of light aftermarket rims for autox.

The new BMW-USA 135i configurator shows the 261 wheel as an accessory for $1,654 (set without tires).

Look again... it shows the 216 wheels on the Accessories tab. The 182 is also there, which is very similar to 261, but different. No M logo, for instance.

Just to add to the mix....
I inquired about these wheels and my dealer gave me a copy of a BMW memo to the dealer with all of the available wheels (for the 135i), of which the model 261 was included. He told me that he would get back to me on the price - which, I belive implied, that they cost extra. OH - there were about 8 different wheels available.

My dealer has the 261M part numbers: 3611 7 891 050 (F) and 3611 7 891 051 (R)
but no prices.

I'd like the 261's as well. I was going to hold out and get an M3 sedan, but I am heavily considering jumping in on the 135 bandwagon. I figure that if I'm going to buy a new one, I might as well order it.

I did not like them that much before. But now I do like them more as time goes on. The 264's are basic. These have some flair.

I have in the past been able to convince my dealer to take the new wheels that came in the car and give me the credit towards the purchase of the wheels I wanted.

They want your business so this is not umcommon. I did that with my E46 wheels and steering wheel.
