BMW Military Sales allotted only 500 1er's for MY 2008

If you are one of the few who get to partake in BMW Military Sales Program, I was told by Pentogan Cars they are only allotting 500 1 series (128i-135i) for 2008, and the list is filling up fast!

If true, I wonder if this tells us something about total US first-year allotment.

Looks like plenty people in the U.S. military will be able to afford one. It was announced yesterday that the U.S. government is currently giving out $20,000 signing bonuses to NEW RECRUITS. The same signing bonus was 5,000 dollars last march. In the past such outlandish bonuses were giving to people with experience(such as aircraft pilots, etc.)

500 total for the BMW Military Sales Program.
Yes they have taken many orders, a deposit of $1000 to $2000 depending on the dealer.

Not so fast. You only get half of that money that is then taxed at about 20-40%. Then, the remaining amount is distributed annually over the course of your enlistment term (4-6 years). Which is also taxed at every installment. So, with a 20k signing bonus, you may see 6-8k depending on tax status, right up front. Then there's the smoking hot pay for an e-1, which is well below poverty level. In the end you wind up as an E-1, maybe an E-2 with a couple hundred bucks to your name who can't even think about buying one of these for some time. And then there's insurance for a young person owning a new BMW...forget about it.

Sorry if this seems like a rant. It's just that most non-military people seem to think that we (military types) are somehow earning a fat paycheck. Nobody joins the Navy to get rich.

Thanks for the clarification...when you put it that way, its not as great as I thought. I wonder why the military man on CNN last night didnt bring up these arguments. He was getting outnumbered. The others saw it as bribery. Whatever the taxation, its 5times as much as it was less than a year ago.

It is taxed just like the rest of your income (provided one doesn't have non-taxable combat pay for example). Withholdings, well that is another story.

I think so, yes. It's the only realistic way of getting a US Spec BMW (or MINI in my case) delivered OCONUS

I got mine on order....i got a 31k purchase price for the 135i. I was also told that the price could go up 100 or so but usually never more than that. I ordered my car through Pentagon Car Sales. All the premium car brands have similar military sales program. Porsche has the worst. They only offer 3% off. All the others offer at least 10%.

Yeah E-1's only make 400-500 at the most. Enlisted personnel do not make that much money. I'm an E-5 and My annual income is below middle class income. Even with the housing allowance. Also a lot of the housing (not all) facilities in the military are in terrible shape. I chuckled when I read about the Walter Reed problems. If they did a similar inspection on facilities around the military they just might have to fire all the secretaries of the military. There is a terrible misconception about how much we militart folk make and the state of our facilities. Anyway enough about that.

I love BMW's

hmmm so that puts the 135i price at 34.5k for regular sales. that seems dead-center of our price estimates.

That is a safe bet. The military sales price of the 128i is 25k.

I have worked with Pentagon Auto Sales before and they accept orders using “estimated” prices for future models before they receive official pricing. I would not put complete faith in the 31K price. It is Pentagon Auto Sales guess.
