Ok, maybe I'm the retarded one here (as is the case many times, lol), but I just don't get why BMW still camoflauges the 1-series convertible. Let me pull out my dusty physics and triginometry book here and formulate a theory that the 1-series convertible looks like the 1-series minus the hard-top. Anyone else have any other theories?

They don't want to advertise when it is arriving, to confuse the "competition."

That's my guess, at least.

I don't think BMW confused any of us with its camos.

To avoid attracting a crowd? But then again, a cladded car attracts attention too...

BMW camos it's upcoming models even when a corresponding model (such as the coupe) has been debuted either in the press or publicly.
This is just the way they do it inspite of the fact that we all know exactly what it'll look like.

I don't think there's any purpose in driving the mule around Cali, except for having spy pics taken of it, and drumming up free advertising and interest.

Designworks is in Cali, but they have a study that they design the car in. They wouldn't need the car driving around with cladding all over it.

First part is exactly right- it's all for the press...and even the shot that the link takes you to is so bad it seems deliberate...and nearly only interesting to those already interested.

Strange, BMW has one of their cars fully camoflaged, but another is running around with almost no camoflage.

Not always. I have a friend who is involved with a major car company, and he occasionally brings home camo'd cars. There is usually a reason he is driving them--last minute this-and-that changes, or simply to learn more about a new platform. It's not all about publicity. I know, because I've driven some in the middle of the night

I'm sure you are right, but taking the camoed 1-Cabrio down Melrose during the day is begging for some spy shots.
